SS Masyn Winn RHe’s put together pretty well at 5-11 180 lbs. but looks relatively small on the playing field simply because it seems like the rest of these guys are giants nowadays. Mays was listed as 5-10 175 lbs. and Aaron was of similar stature. At any rate, a lot of the players today are built like linebackers, so at first glance Winn struck me as little.
Yeah 1TD, people in general are bigger today than in yester-year. Mays was solid though – built like a running back. Somewhere in an old magazine I have there is a picture of Mays in the locker room without a shirt on. The guy was buffed! Arms and shoulders looked like a weight lifter.
The thing that seems most worrying about Winn’d slow start at the dish is he’s only taken one walk in his first 20 games. It seems like the mental part is off maybe. Not sure what he does about it.
Yeah, I think I’ve seen that photo, Bikemike. Mays was in no way shape or form built cheap…And Aaron was the same way. Just watching Hank’s rip when he connected told you he had enough strength in his wrists alone to power up an entire neighborhood. At any rate, some of these guys today look as big as a ship.
Winn started slow at aaa than picked it up. This is even harder. Hopefully we see an uptick the next couple of weeks.

I guess so. Pallante has pitched in a team-high 56 games. He is 0-for-5 in save situations and has 13 holds. 40.5% of his inherited runners have scored this season (15 of 37). The bullpen average is 31.3%. So he doesn’t seem the optimal choice to take over a bases-loaded situation.
P.S. Looking at the numbers, only Helsley and Romero look good, plus King (1-for-7, 14.3%). Gallegos is worse than Pallante at 46.4% with VerHagen at 34.5%.
Sad to see the oriole fans aren’t supporting their team. I felt the Orioles had a real good shot at being pretty good this year. Ive always kind of pulled for them even though I don’t consider myself a fan. Not a good start for Hudson but facing a quality team. At least our bats have been getting better lately, mostly anyway.

So, with the Cardinals supposed focus on analytics, they can’t figure this out this late in the year.
Maybe the Cardinals should fire the analytics staff.
1982willie, I agree. I expected to see more fans in the seats for a first place team, even on a Monday in September…
A lot of it hasn’t made sense LA. With some of the lineups we’re seeing, and pitching moves, it seems like maybe Ollie isn’t getting any input from upstairs and he’s just making it up as he goes. Maybe they all took off already.
I just checked the home attendance numbers for the Orioles this season and they didn’t begin to draw what I would call even a decent amount of fans until about the beginning of August. I was surprised to see that simply because they showed signs in ’22 of being a much improved team and have certainly displayed that they are by featuring the best W/L record in the AL. At any rate, they’ve proven they’re a good team and I would have thought attendance would have been better than it is.
The Os must have far fewer season ticket holders than the Cards. Either that or they report actual gate. The Cards reported attendance is never very low no matter how empty the stadium is.
They had some really bad attendance figures in the first three months with numerous games in the 10 to 15K range. Looked like the skeptics started to have a little faith by the tail end of July and into August when they routinely started to draw over 20K per game. I can’t imagine an O’s fan converting over to a fan of the DC team, but the Nats are close by so I guess that could create some competition for fan dollars.
