August 30, 2023 at 1:12 pm #232801If they can’t get anything for O’Neill this winter he needs to be dropped over the side. Its better to know you don’t have something and plan accordingly, than to think you’ve got something and then you don’t.
August 30, 2023 at 1:48 pm #232804Man, Mikolas has not been good for awhile now. Seems to get shelled most every outing.
August 30, 2023 at 2:08 pm #232809I kept saying that the new pitchers we bring in need to be better than Mik and Matz. I think I need to raise that bar.
August 30, 2023 at 2:27 pm #232810Walker knocks one. Nice to see some good news for the good guys. Rah Cardinals.
August 30, 2023 at 2:50 pm #232815Read some stuff showing Mikolas stats steadily dropping. Esp his velocity. Maybe excuses but some say hes tiring out.
August 30, 2023 at 3:11 pm #232818Hate to see the pen give up the go ahead run late like that. Not that its anything new this year, but King is new, so I hate to see it.
August 30, 2023 at 3:24 pm #232820Winn has to put it in play and get the tying run over to third with less than two outs. Its late, that play has to happen. If he doesn’t have the bat skill then he has to bunt. Failure is not an acceptable outcome when you need that run. He can’t risk a K in that sutuation.

ParticipantI blame Oli for Goldy not driving in those runs. He can’t drive in runs from the 2spot! Everybody knows this!
Have a day Walker

ParticipantLol, déjà vu!
Time to hyperventilate again!
August 30, 2023 at 3:59 pm #232823EDDIE again!!!
August 30, 2023 at 4:00 pm #232824Ya gotta love it when it ends like that. Rah Cardinals!
August 30, 2023 at 4:28 pm #232828For the second game in succession Edman has once again illustrated the portion of his game that can’t be quantified by anything related to advanced mathematics or fancy sabre-speak. It’s a simple case of him being a winner and anyone who has followed Big League baseball for more than a minute or two shouldn’t have too much trouble being able to spot it.
August 30, 2023 at 4:32 pm #232830Eddie is the real thing.
August 30, 2023 at 5:10 pm #232831Yowza! Its an Edman Dinger Winner! Go Cardinals!
August 30, 2023 at 6:54 pm #232833The Padres are 6-21 in 1 run games this season.
0-11 in extra inning games.
People are dumbfounded by how they could be so bad. Well….here ya go!
August 30, 2023 at 8:53 pm #232836I looked it up and Melvin’s in the second year of a three year contract, but I’d still say he has to be feeling some heat in SD. I wasn’t aware of those two sets of numbers, but they’re both astounding. Especially the lack of a solitary win in eleven extra inning games. Them’s snakebit type numbers.
August 31, 2023 at 5:56 am #232838With the ghost runner. It pays to be good at fundamental small ball. Advancing a runner and getting him in. As opposed to hoping for a homer. Some teams are good at it and some aren’t.
August 31, 2023 at 6:53 am #232841What is noteworthy about San Diego’s poor record in those situations is that they have one of the best closers in the game. That suggests the offense may be the culprit despite all the stars in the lineup.
If there is one thing I am seeing across baseball this season, it is that a collection of good players does not necessarily make a good team.

Arenado 1 for 12, 1 K
O’Neill 0 for 7, 1 BB, 3 K
Knizner 0 for 8, 6 K
Winn 2 for 12, 4 K
Palacios 2 for 7, 1 KAugust 31, 2023 at 8:36 am #232851Alluding to the small ball tactic, I’ve said more times than I can count that when playing at home I’d attempt a sac-bunt every solitary time to move that runner up to 3B with one out. No ifs ands or buts about it. I don’t care who’s standing in. If the sac is successful, chances are that game is going to be placed in the W column. Moreover, with the new extra innings rule, I think it would be a good idea for every team to make certain that they had at least one player on the roster who was very proficient at laying down a bunt to use him as a PH’er in extras. Some of you may recall that if Kyle Lohse doesn’t get a successful sac-bunt down in game 6 of the 2011 WS, that game never goes beyond the 10th inning and the Redbirds lose that WS.
August 31, 2023 at 1:25 pm #232866Gotta agree 1TD. The sac bunt would be an extremely effective weapon. Edman is about our only player really good at it though. The Cubs are good at it too and wisely use it alot. Another skill they should already have at the major league level.
