6:45 p.m.
RHP Adam Wainwright (3-9, 8.61) vs. LHP Blake Snell
BSM // KMOX // WIJR
(and Bally Sports Southeast/Southwest Extra)August 27, 2023 at 10:39 pm #232649Man I hope Wainwright can reach deep and get these 2 wins.
Running out of chances.
August 28, 2023 at 8:16 am #232657I am so pulling for Waino to extract himself from this sad, career-end slide. Just a bit more oomph and a bit more luck to finish on a much deserved positive note…
August 28, 2023 at 8:43 am #232661Wainwright in his prime would have trouble getting two more wins pitching for this team.
August 28, 2023 at 10:51 am #232670Yesterday it was Nola and today it is Snell. Will one of them be a Cardinal next year?
August 28, 2023 at 11:47 am #232674Hopefully Snell

ParticipantWainwright in his prime would have trouble getting two more wins pitching for this team.
Ain’t that the absolute but unfortunate truth?
August 28, 2023 at 1:11 pm #232679In his prime, Wainwright got to hit and he took great pride in it. Maybe Oli should DH him! 😉
August 28, 2023 at 3:01 pm #232691In a situation where what we need is to advance a runner to 3rd, Wainwright might be a better bet than at least half of our lineup.

SS Masyn Winn RAugust 28, 2023 at 3:11 pm #232695Actually you may be right Bling. Probably could just bunt the guy over. Can he play 1b?? Not much been happening at the plate there. Personally don’t see Waino getting 2 more wins.Show me I’m wrong!
August 28, 2023 at 3:13 pm #232696Also hope Gorman remembers how to hit today. Starting to remind me of DeOut!
August 28, 2023 at 3:20 pm #232697Seriously Wooster, I was thinking the same. Waino can bunt. I was thinking they need to teach Gorman how to bunt reliably. He steps in and what we desperatly need is for him to take an AB that has a high probability of advancing a runner to third and what he does is the lower probability of barreling the ball with optimum launch angle and driving it deep. Gorman does not have the bat on ball skill to adjust and give himself a higher probability of pulling a grounder to the right side, so he needs to be able to bunt. Same with some other guys. A functional offense is more than hoping we hit enough homers to win.
August 28, 2023 at 5:17 pm #232708I hate seeing the two touts at the bottom of the order, but that’s where they need to be right now. Winn is off to a slow start, and Walker is hitting barely .200 since the AS break, which is a while ago now. Considering we were talking about RoY, his debut has been a huge fizzle.
The thing about Walker I am most concerned about, though, is evidenced by his 75 point reverse platoon split and generaly appallingly bad season batting line vs lefties, .197/.265/.368/.634. It suggests an absense of anything like well rounded batting skills. Along the same lines as Gorman, his occasional power is intoxicating, but so far, I have seen no evidence of anything in the way of skills as a batsman. Certanly nothing like the level of advance and refinement a guy should have by the time he gets here. He connected pretty regularly for a while, but not since they caught on to him. He can sometimes connect with mistakes thrown by righties, but that seems to be the extent of his ability. We can hope for something better next year.
August 28, 2023 at 6:13 pm #232711The mention of Adam being no slouch in the batter’s box reminds me of another reason I detest the DH in the NL. I miss seeing pitchers who could hit take their rips or lay down a nice sac bunt. There’s too many pitchers that I can recall who could really swing the bat to mention in this comment, but one that will always stand out to me is Don Robinson. He actually used to scare me whenever he stood in the box against the Cardinals. At any rate, for some reason it was always special when a pitcher would either lace an RBI base hit, or Jack Buck would say, “He wouldn’t walk the pitcher would he?”…Haha!
August 28, 2023 at 6:43 pm #232713I just have a bad feeling about Wainwright taking on the Phillies.
August 28, 2023 at 6:59 pm #232714Even with Snell dealing, this game sets up perfectly for Waino. This is not a game that you bet the ranch and all of it’s animal inhabitants on, but it would be wise to dig deep into your lifelong savings and extract a sizeable sum. I love this game and I’m totally bullish on Waino coming away with the “W”. Let’s call it 6-4 Birds shall we?
August 28, 2023 at 7:09 pm #232716He’s only at 20 pitches after 2, so far, so good.
August 28, 2023 at 7:10 pm #232717PadsFS
ParticipantGray haired Matt Carpenter with the ovation and the flare into right.
August 28, 2023 at 7:15 pm #232718PadsFS
ParticipantHolliday in the booth looks like he could play right now.
August 28, 2023 at 8:09 pm #232720Runners on 2nd and 3rd in 4th with 1 out. Can’t get one in. 2 strike outs in a row. Not a good look for the home team fans.
August 28, 2023 at 8:27 pm #232722Leaving Wainwright in there to try to get the win is going to cost them the game
August 28, 2023 at 8:32 pm #232723PadsFS
ParticipantGreat game by Wainwright. 6 innings and a single run. Pallante would’ve opened it up.
August 28, 2023 at 8:32 pm #232724PadsFS
ParticipantCool to see Holiday, Waino, and Carpenter tonight.
August 28, 2023 at 9:00 pm #232725Can’t fault Wainwright tonight…. Offense is just in one of it’s non-existant phases….
it’s too bad because he might not hurl 5 shutout innings again and only 1 run through 6.
