As bad as the pitching is (and it’s a disaster)….the offense needs help for next year as well

The other question is do you just go into tank mode by resting Arenado and Goldschmidt for a better draft position.

We may d do better to just walk Harper. Hudson looks ok but hes not the same pitcher with men on base. Needs to pitch out the rest of the season. Looks like a replay of last night switching Baker for Goldy. Our bats are dead again. I suggest taking some pitches and working the counts up for awhile. Unless we’re just trying to end it quick.

Just got home and checked the box score. Hudson’s line looks pretty bad and we’ve only got two hits. Congrats to Baker. I’ll check the box score again in the morning.

I also saw that McGreevy gave up 10 hits and 5 runs in 6 innings for Memphis. At least he went 6 innings, but it took him 95 pitches. He’s just not going to have any success in MLB if he can’t dominate AAA hitters, which he can’t.

Hey Goldy hit the ball in the 7th! Out though. Gorman looked awful!

The draft went to a lottery last season so no guarantee the draft position improves by tanking.

Blow-out again. Galleagos with 3 pitches top of head high- meatball- and in the dirt. Could put anybody in to pitch now. Doubt we will see an extra inning game the rest of the season. What a stinker!

As usual, I’m watching a Cardinal team I just can’t believe. In 55 years plus of watching Cardinal baseball, I have never, ever, seen a team like this. How is Marmol keeping his job? Is this really the best we can do? What happened to “The Cardinal Way? I can tell you, this ain’t it! The Cardinal Fans, the best in baseball, deserve much better then this travesty.

Isn’t it amazing the Cardinals are worse than the Cubs? The once proud St. Louis Cardinals, the class of the National League, reduced to this? It’s pathetic.

I can recall teams that were as bad or worse than this one, but those teams were routinely expected to be bad. However, there’s no question in my mind that the current Cardinal manager is undoubtedly not only the worst I’ve ever been subjected to, but also simply lacks any character or the ability to acknowledge the poor peformance of himself or the team. In any case, this entire season has been a disappointing farce from opening day up until the very moment that I’m posting this comment. In that sense, at least they’ve been consistent. And as long as Cardinal fans are willing to spend money to see this circus clown act, I’m not ready to say that they deserve better.

True Materialman, you must’ve started in the 60s like I did. True except the part about Oli. Maybe you didn’t hear, he has been amazing.

Small consolation, but don’t Bill and Johnny have some really nice clothes?

It’s been a long time since a Cardinal team has been this bad but we knew some of those teams were going to be bad. Have we ever had a year that we were picked to win the division that we ended up finishing last?

I mean, this year is a total surprise in the worst sort of way.

There is not a single pitcher currently on this staff that I want back for 2024 – unfortunately I’ll bet 1/2 to 2/3 of next years staff is already on the team.

The offense should be ok next year – I guess.

They gotta fix the defense – if they do that’s also going to help the pitching.

But I will say this – there is so much wrong with this team that as I type this I cannot imagine them improving enough to make the playoffs next season. I just can’t see it.

This trainwreck looks like a 2 year job to correct….

No, we haven’t, ZTR. That’s what makes this edition so incredibly bad. But it goes beyond bad when those that are charged with leadership positions refuse to publicly acknowledge the dismal performance. If they possessed the shred of fortitude that’s required to simply say, “Okay, we did a lousy job this season but we’re going to make the changes necessary to turn this thing around,” I could live with that and respect the fact that people often get things wrong.

I think Mo has kind of said that in his smug, arrogant manner. He’s acknowledged that his plan didn’t work and says he’s going to fix it for 2024.

I don’t think he can fix this team in one offseason. He’s lucky to be in a horrible division but even with that I can’t see this team winning the division next year. They won’t have the pitching and defense to get it done.

I agree with the sentiment of how bad the team is. Yea there have been worse teams but those teams for the most part were expected to not be that good. While I personally felt the team would struggle to be as good as last season, I figured being in a mostly weak division they would hang around and maybe get a wild card though I don’t consider that really great. But I would never have expected them to be in last place but yet here we are.

Now at 18 under and I expect new lows to be routinely realized from here on out. But, what do I know? The month of September may save them…

Yeah Willie, one that stands out to me was the ’90 team that finished in last place in the old NLE. They were very competitive in ’89 and were expected to be the same in ’90. I pointed out the other day that the ’90 last place team was managed during that season by three different managers named Whitey Herzog, Red Schoendienst and Joe Torre. All three HOF’ers. I’m guessing that no other last place team has ever had three managers in a single season who all ended up with a plaque in Cooperstown.

No future Hof managers involved this time.

Usually, in the morning, after checking the box score I go to Rob Rains’s site to listen to audio of Ollie’s post game. It is becoming obvious that there is a type of reality disconnect going on. It is sort of creepy really. He’s there, but there is a kind of vacancy.

If you had bet the higher win% to win yesterday, you’d have been right 13 of 15 games.
