Between PDJ being traded and Donovan’s surgery, we should see plenty of Burleson and Carlson without Edman/Donovan in the OF.

Burly is at DH tonight, which is fine, but when Carlson starts, Walker should DH.

O’Neill, Carlson and Noot is our best D outfield.

My pick to click the rest of the season is Burleson.

The Doppler Radar shows some green stuff moving into the St. Louis area around game time. This one is going to be iffy. Might very well see another delay tonight.

Din din today was the weekly trip to the Gasthof, the Amish restaurant. Meatloaf, fish, mashed potatoes/gravy, green beans, noodles, dressing, sweet tea, cherry cobbler, and some vanilla soft serve ice cream.

With the trade deadline now in the rearview, another Cardinal deadline looms in the form of being mathematically eliminated from contention. With a relatively weak field in the NLC and 3 WC’s the Redbirds could die a slow death and I’m thinking the proverbial coup de gras may not occur until the middle of Sept unless they were to go on an extended bender of losses, which is a genuine possibility. Something else I’ve considered is that the career managerial W/L % of our whiz-kid manager now stands at .519 and 10 games over. I’d say he may be wanting to encourage his team to do anything possible to play well enough to keep his overall managerial record a winning one prior to beginning the ’24 season.

Wasted 1 st inning chance. Goldy, Arenado and Contreras, between them unable even to advance a runner.

Hudson burning them in there at 91-92. He’s hitting the black, and also getting swing and miss on his breaking stuff coming in at 84. Two clean innings so far. Working briskly. No nonsense.

Hudson 9 up 9 down. Still hitting 92, velo holding up. Attacking and firing strikes. Whether it would work against a better lineup is something we will probably find out yet this season.

Top of the 9th now. 7-3 Redbirds. Romeo on to pitch.

Hudson gave up a three run dinger to Knellner (sp?) and that sort of got the Twins back in the game.

UPDATE: Two outs in the 9th now.

Cubs now lead the Reds 8-5 in the 6th. Votto with two dongs for the Reds.

    Milwaukee lost to Washington 3-2.

    Pirates…….uh, hmmmm…..can’t recall

Its a winner! Hudson looked real good till he gave up some runs in the 7th. Ran outa gas. Pallante and JoJo closed it out scoreless. JoJo really went after ’em. Lotta offense from us tonight too. Go Cardinals!

Hudson, Liebertore, and Woodford will get about 8-9 starts each to make a case for next year.

Life isn’t at all always fair and a perfect example is that the Twins at only 1 game above .500 have the largest lead of the three 1st place teams in the AL at 2 games atop the ALC.

Another oddity is that the Tigers who are a dozen games under .500 genuinely have a chance at 6.5 back in the ALC with 54 games remaining. If things keep going the way they have this season, the Cardinals may want to consider following the Astros over to the AL…
