I figure the Cards to make a real push to improve for the ’23 to ’26 window.
I think they will make a WS appearance in there somewhere.
NEW ARENA made predictions for the landing spots for the top 30 free agents. Quintana to the White Sox and the only player that they had for the Cards was…. wait for it…. Matt Carpenter. Our roster spots are at a premium right now so is this possible?
Carp, egad! It really does sound absurd, but then again, there are three things to consider. First, he added corner outfield to his positional repertoire last year, presumably at the occasional fill in for a few innings level, so that would increase usefulness. Second, he hit righties while not being vulnerable to lefties, so there is lineup utility in that. Third, he lost the hideous beard.
