Bottom of 8. Helsley on for the Cards.

Canha hits one with authority to center, but Bader has a beed on it and will catch it right at the edge of the track for the out.

Lindor ….on 3-1 hits a foul down the left field line that Arenado and O’Neill converge on, but cannot make the play but fortunately it lands about 2 feet in foul territory and that’s a play that has to be made….ouch! And now he walks.

Alonso ….this should be a good matchup….maybe not of the Ali-Frazier ilk, but a dandy all the same …and the count goes full…fouls the next pitch off down the left field line that both Arenado and O’Neill eyed with great interest. Alonso lines out to O’Neill in left….2 down.

Escobar …..strikes out……but the ball goes under Knizner’s legs and Escobar beats the throw to 1st and the Mets have been granted new life here in the 8th….. Lindor stopped at 2nd.

McNeil lines a base hit to left….. there’s going to be a play at home….. O’Neill’s throw won’t get him….tie game. Both the botched foul ball attempted catch off Lindor’s bat and the Knizner pass ball were most costly this inning. Helsley has not put his normal dominant pitching on full display in this game, but he should have escaped this inning unblemished.

Davis strikes out looking on a doozy of a curve…..that one would have buckled Ted Williams’ knees.

Donovan gets a lead off walk, such a good hitter.

Donovan steals, then wild pitch gets him to third.

Top of 9. Rodriguez still pitching for the Metropolitans.

Donovan on 3-2 coaxes the free pass and that’s a very sweet start to the Redbird 9th.

Goldy flies out to Canha in straight away right field.

    Donovan swipes 2nd.

Donovan to 3rd on a pass ball

Carlson walks…..and that will send Rodriguez to the showers. Looks like our old pal Adam Ottavino is getting the call.

Arenado…..oops….. that’s what I get for coming into this game so late….. Arenado is pinch hitting, so last inning when the Cards were in the field, please insert Dickerson for Arenado on defense….thank you very much.

Arenado strikes out flailing on one wide of the zone.

O’Neill rolls one slowly down to 3rd….and Escobar cannot come to grips with it and O’Neill will beat it out! 4-3 Good Guys!

Lot of water under the bridge, but I never understood why we let Ottavino go. Never made sense.

O’Neil could change his fortunes on the day here

Maybe if Nolan would’ve started like he should’ve in this game we be up 2 runs and not 1.

Tyler’s excuse me is no excuse!

Well we tend to let a lot of guys go that we shouldn’t. All in the name of looking for the next Albert or waino while saving some dimes

Man O’Neill can fly down that line! Maybe that little dribbler will get him going. All the talent in the world. Looked to put it together last year by struggling early this year.

I always get nervous when Gallegos comes in to a one run game. He never seems to have a clean inning, but usually gets it done.

Looked like Gallegos was hurting after that last warm up toss.

Walking a guy is never good in the 9th.

Bottom of 9. Gallegos on to hopefully close matters out for St. Louis in favorable fashion.

Jankowski taps a little comebacker to Gallegos and he’ll underhand it on over to Goldy at 1st for out #1 here in the 9th.

    Smith on 3-2 walks….ouch!

Guillorme lines a base hit to right…..Smith smartly won’t test Carlson’s arm as he’ll slap on the brakes at 2nd.

Canha strikes out swinging on a 2-2 bottom of the zone heater!

    Lindor strikes out swinging…. ballgame!

Your merry final from the Big Apple:

    St. Louis Cardinals 4
    New York Mets 3

Thank you….thank you very much, BicycleMike. She got a little too scary for my liking in the 9th, but boy did Gallegos come up big by striking out those last two Mets to seal the deal. Now let’s beat Scherzer tomorrow night and then come right back Thursday and take these Mets down again and exit the Big Apple in grandiose style by taking 3-4 games.

Nolan O’Neill is not much of a clutch hitter. He looks lost at times up there. Thank you Escobar for double clutching the other O’Neill’s slow grounder. We were very fortunate to have won this one.

I wish my cough would go away. The sneezing and runny nose have dissipated but I still have this cough. I wonder if the cigars have something to do with that?

No….. doubtful that your El Presidente stogies have anything to do whatsoever with your lingering cough, Rat, so I’d keep on a puffing. Hey, I think I speak for everyone here in Cardinal Nation by wishing your sweet WhiteyHerDog good luck at her veterinarian appointment tomorrow. Please let us know her status immediately after getting a diagnosis…….you know, maybe it’s the El Presidentes that are ailing her, Rat?

Helsley struggling with his command for what might be the first time this year.

Was real sharp last time out, but got out of it then.

Very quirky situational game but that’s what makes this game so great.
