I know we don’t have a lot of good options but I really wish Shildt would stop hitting Edman at leadoff. His .298 OBP is bad for any spot in the order, especially leadoff.

Edman has also been somewhat of a disappointment this year. At least so far. If he could get that average up to around .275 then my mind might change regarding him.

Same way with Carlson. It’s his rookie year but if next year he is still in the .250s then he will be a disappointment.

And Tyler O’Neill is starting to strikeout a lot again.

Carlson’s problem is good numbers vs lefties give the impression he is a better hitter than he is. As a long term proposition, having a corner outfielder in the lineup hitting .234 doesn’t work, so he either needs to get better vs righties or be a platoon player. Noorbaar might be a possibility vs righties. The F.O. is not going to be keen on platooning a guy they gave uni #3 to though, since it would make them look stupider than they already do.

Well we are hitless so far. Nolan Ryan must be pitching for the other team

You can’t leave Lester in there even if it’s against the great Micheal A. Taylor.

I was down at the French Lick Valley golf course hitting balls on the driving range and practicing my short game. On the way back I checked the score and I see that the Cards now lead 2-1 in the top of the 7th.

Lester must have pitched fairly well today.

Looks like Lester did better this time. Got plenty of offense too. Didn’t see but bits and pieces of the game. Saw two Carp PAs, both pitiful. Heard Nooty getting nooted in the other team’s park. Nice.

Nice outing by Lester. Wasn’t able to watch but saw sosa had 4 hits. Bader a couple hits. Arenado doing well. Goldy didn’t do great but did some damage when needed. Carpenter should just have some pride and walk away. Andrew Miller, I just don’t understand why he’s on the team anymore. It was 9-1 when he came in in the 9th and they still had to bring in another pitcher.

My boy Sosa a nice night. Probably back to the bench tomorrow. Nice to see him in the lineup.

A couple thoughts about the pitching.

Lester threw 90 pitches to get through 5.2 innings. He just ran out of gas earlier than you want to see from your starter. That meant we had to bring in a string of mop up guys which we don’t want to be doing, as it is just what has led us into trouble all year.

A reliever can only go so many days in a row. There is the chance Cabrera will be needed Sunday. If so, then having had to use him Saturday in a blow out game after Miller failed will be to our disadvantage when we face Milwaukee, even with Monday off.

It seems like weakness anywhere in the pitching staff has a ripple effect. Had Lester been more efficient and gone deeper, or if Miller had done his job, Cabrera would be more available against Milwaukee than he will be, and we would be in a better position than we will be.

Unfortunately, BB, starters across the board in MLB don’t seem to go that deep into games anymore. The wonks will show you that the third time through the lineup isn’t a charm.

There are some guys around that weren’t listening when the wonks told them.

24 year old Genesis “Cabby” Cabrera. Evolving into the catalyst of the St. Louis Cardinal bullpen. Boy that Tommy Pham deal with Tampa is looking more favorable with each and every Cabby appearance. Viewpoints are indeed changing in regards to the efficiency, or lack thereof, of recent Cardinal trades, where it initially looked as if the Cards got royally fleeced. Louis Linwood Voit will soon be looking to find playing time outside of NY. John Francis Nogowski struggling in Pittsburgh. Randy Arozarena Gonzalez no longer looking like the game’s next big star. Jose Adolis Garcia Arrieta(No relation to Jake), quickly beginning to resemble a true blue flash in the pan.

We could use an Arozarena/Garcia blue flash for the next couple months.
