Think this lineup would turn a few heads and block a number or two?

    1b Carpenter
    SS DeJong
    LF Martinez
    C Molina
    3B Gyorko
    CF Munoz
    RF Bader
    2B Wong

Jack must have better command of his pitches. He lost control last start. We need a big game from him and some offense.

Interesting thought there about Munoz. MM apparently stated recently that he thought his best position was CF. Personally I would put Bader in CF and leave him there as I think he is one of the top defensive CF’s in the league and his offense is currently no worse than Pham’s.

As for Munoz, I have been thinking a lot about him lately. It is obvious that his stock is mushrooming. He can play all over the field, has provided consistent offense, and of course is very cheap and controllable. Everyone assumed he would be sent down when DeJong was activated but when he wasn’t that spoke volumes.

That Piscotty trade is looking better each day. People talk a lot about Schrock but Munoz may turn out to be the key to the trade. I think I would let him have a shot at the everyday 3B job until future trades or FA signings might change that need. His offense is certainly no worse than Gyroko’s and he can probably play adequate defense at 3B.

The question on Munoz is whether he will improve. He is “ok” at his current level but this team is full of ok players. He is young so.his game could step up. A little more power, slightly fewer strike outs, and a few more walks and he is an elite cf with average defense. Wouldn’t take a lot in any category but a little improvement in all 3. Time will tell.

Now, that is interesting. Wong has a great opportunity if he does not press.

Wong has had more opportunities than Storm Davis & Stormy Daniels combined.

Interesting factoids. At Memphis this year, before any MLB equivalence reduces it for comparison purposes, Schrock’s OPS is .679. For St. Louis, Wong is at .669.

Re Schrok – There is generally an adjustment period when a player is promoted to a new level –

    In 2016, Schrock’s slash was .331/.373/,499/.822
In 2017, his slash was .321/.379/.422/.801

Using his first 3+ months at AAA ball as a comparison to anything is probably a bit premature. JMHO.

Carpenter with a lead off HR. He hit it as far away from Hamilton as possible, LOL — just inside the RF foul pole.

bccran, the comparison was targeted to those who want Schrock promoted now to replace Wong in the lineup. It seems clear he is not yet ready.

The Cards lead is 2-1 heading into the seventh. Could not convert a good opportunity – a leadoff double in B6th.

The cleanup hitter Ozuna being double-switched out of the game with three innings remaining says a lot about this offense and perhaps his arm as well. Bader into the game as his replacement.

P.S. While that could lead to Hicks pitching multiple innings, there are nine relievers on the roster. Further, Hicks has bases loaded and no out. He may not survive one inning, let alone two.

The game gets away from Hicks with four in, two on and just one out. Holland now pitching with Cincy up, 5-2.

Holland gets out of the seventh with no more damage, then loads the bases with one out in the eighth. Lyons vs. Votto next. What could go wrong?

First-pitch single by Votto plates two to increase the Reds lead to 7-2. Lyons has lost his mojo vs. LHH this season.

Unless a minor miracle occurs, the Cards will lose their final series before the All-Star Game at home to last-place Cincinnati. If they lose Sunday as well, they would head into the break at .500 and would be two games under .500 at home. Even if they win Sunday, it is not a pretty picture.

fans of the astros and cubs who had to suffer thru those 90 and 100 loss seasons could have some saving grace because they knew they were building something special. All they had todo was be patient. But all the cardinals are doing is wasting time and money and building nothing.

Milwaukee is 2-6 this past week. a great oppt to close ground but not the Cardinals who are 1-4 since last sunday. Only 1 game gained and that was because we had off days on mon and thurs which Milwaukee lost both times.how pathetic is that.?

Any insight why Flaherty was pulled after pitching well, low pitch count, and batting for himself in the 5th?

Norris pitches the ninth to get work in. The defense makes three bad plays, including a bad throw by Norris himself, so he is pulled with the bases loaded again with two outs and Cecil pitching. Reds up 8-2.

Forget the Brewers. With a win tonight in San Diego, the Cubs would take sole possession of first place. The Cards would be 7.5 games back and will play the Cubs 8 of the first 11 after the break.
