Fowler looks to me like he’s only half interested in what he’s doing out there.
I don’t think he is even half interested.
May 10, 2018 at 11:19 pm #51693Carpenter 0-3 with 3 k’s. Can we start playing Gyorko yet?
A. No, we can’t, for the same reason that we didn’t bench Craig in 2014 and we kept hitting Holliday fourth in 2016. This is simply a logical continuation of the Mike Matheny era.
Sadly, I think this is true. Only now, I don’t think anyone will take Carpenter off our hands in a trade…
May 10, 2018 at 11:39 pm #51694I am not among those down on Fowler overall, but I admit that several of his recent at-bats caught my attention for the wrong reason. Teammates are trying to steal and he does not try to protect them – or he is missing the calls on hit and run.
Bud Norris on to close to protect a one-run lead. Tonight’s reliever hierarchy of Hicks-Holland-Norris seems the current preferred default.
May 10, 2018 at 11:51 pm #51698Cards win 2-1.
May 10, 2018 at 11:52 pm #51700With the 2-1 win, the Cards improve to 21-14 on the season. Norris is 8-for-8 in save ops.
May 11, 2018 at 1:28 am #51705Fowler’s hit was about as weak is it gets. He’s really struggling as is Carpenter. Carpenter hit the crap out of it his last AB. Maybe pulling the trigger earlier in the count 3-1 or 2-2. IDK..
I don’t know what else to do. I mean we’ve got to get someone going on offense. Gyorko needs to be in the lineup everyday. You can’t really keep Martinez out of the lineup at this point. We really need one or two of the 4 who have stunk it up on offense to get it going. Ozuna, Wong, Carpenter or Fowler. We won’t make the Wildcard with this lineup hitting as it has. Pham and Martinez can’t do it alone.
Tomorrow is Ken Caminiti Bobblehead night. How charming!
May 11, 2018 at 3:38 am #51706Thank heaven for Pham and Mikolas at this point.
Isn’t this the truth…and an understatement at that.
Then again, we are playing .600 baseball. If a couple of the guys could just get going, maybe we’ll play .700 baseball. Or maybe the schedule might get tougher. Ha!

stlcard25ParticipantDefinitely better to get the win than a loss, but this offense needs to get in gear. Matheny has been doing some shuffling but Carpenter, Fowler, Ozuna need to start producing or they should be hitting 6-7-8 until they get going. Fowler should have the day off against the lefty on Friday and so should Marp but we’ll see about that.
May 11, 2018 at 8:03 am #51712Carp has got to either be sit or be hitting in the 8th spot he is worthless right now utterly worthless. to bad the Cards to moronic to see it
May 11, 2018 at 9:44 am #51730Always good to get a win but we aren’t going to win many games by scoring 2 runs. We just happened to be playing the hapless Padres.
I must admit that I was one of those people shaking my head at the Mikolas signing over the winter but he has proven me wrong. Kudos to Mo and Girsch on that one.

ParticipantI was pretty ecstatic when I looked into Mikolas’ statline. I am hopeful we have control of him through arbitration as well. He was a very nice find. I think it’s even better than the Cubs countered with Chatwood and he’s the same walk-machine pitcher he was when he played for Colorado.

stlcard25ParticipantPads, I guess I just sort of assumed that Mikolas would be a free agent after 2019. Looks like we would have him under arbitration for 2021 and beyond. That’s crazy, and could be an excellent signing long term.
