He can’t…4-2 still. This is where the failures with runners on third earlier hurt. Game would be tied now.
Cards have two on in the 9th after the Bader walk and the winning run is at the plate in Wisdom. Just one out.
Wisdom with a clutch hit, scoring Muñoz and moving Bader to 3rd. DeJong up, one out still and Cards trailing by one.
We are just horrible at scoring a runner from 3B with less than 2 outs. DeJong is the one who fails this time and may well cost the game. Geez guys.
Carp strikes out to end the game. Just can’t fail to score runners like they have from 3rd so often the last week or two.
So often these failures to bring in runners from 3B recently have been our supposed run producers. I guess today’s hitters know only one approach to taking an at bat.
That was a potential MVP moment for Carpenter and he just failed. You can’t just hold the bat. Lots of failure to go around this game on the offensive side.
Two big sticks up with the tying run at 3rd and less than two outs and neither is capable of putting the ball in play.
Seems like a lot of the MVP talk I’ve heard recently on Carp on radio is he is not taken too seriously for the award due to his wild swings of good/poor performance and the fact he’s failed at spots other than lead off. Consistency of performance equates to reliability, and that, in and of itself, is something you want from your star.
The bucs threw ace (for me) and their closer at us, who is outstanding, and we still put up a 3 spot. I find these type losses bearable.
I’m trying to visualize a playoff team here, but can’t just yet. Several opportunities w/runners on third and 0 or 1 out, and couldn’t score. That’s not playoff quality situational hitting. I know our guys want to win, but desire and execution are two completely different things. Time to step up guys. If they really are “professional hitters” as they like to call themselves, then they ought to be able to get the ball to the outfield at least. Period, dot.
Our biggest hope tomorrow may be the Kershaw killer Matt Adams. Scary thought since he’s .186 since rejoining the Cards.
