Carlos Martinez (11-11, 3.57) vs. RHP Homer Bailey (5-8, 6.86) 6:10 p.m. FOX Sports Midwest
September 21, 2017 at 10:56 am #33631I have seen some people state that we should be pulling for the Cubs to beat the Brewers because it would be in the Cards best interest. Sorry, but that isn’t happening with me. I understand that we need to leapfrog the Brewers but frankly I don’t care. I want nothing more than for the Cubs to crash and burn. Last year was an absolute nightmare and I don’t want any chance of that happening again. The Cardinals had a chance to knock the Cubs out last weekend and we blew it so now I hope the Brewers can.
I would much rather see the Brewers win the Central than the Cubs. If we somehow get the wild card spot fine but a bigger priority for me is for the Cubs not to get in the playoffs.
ABC = Anyone But Cubs
September 21, 2017 at 11:04 am #33632Goold tweeted last night that Flaherty has been removed from the rotation and will be replaced by Gant.
September 21, 2017 at 11:24 am #33635On the Sunday game thread, you will see Gant as the starter rather than Flaherty.
On the Brewers-Cubs issue, there is also a possibility that the Brewers could win the division and the Cubs still get the wild card – instead of the Cardinals and Rockies. So be careful what you ask for… 😉
September 21, 2017 at 2:19 pm #33663I wonder if the cup building, water throwing, long hair growing, purple haired Martinez is going to show up tonight or if it might be the serious minded, focused Martinez?

September 21, 2017 at 2:23 pm #33664That is true but I would take my chances with the Cubs as a wild card team. I don’t see them beating all three of the Dbacks, Dodgers, and Nats.
September 21, 2017 at 6:53 pm #33671Top of the 3rd, Cards up 3-1…
September 21, 2017 at 8:00 pm #33672Top of the 6th, Cards now up 4-3, one out and runners on first and second…before Fowler grounds into a DP…
September 21, 2017 at 8:30 pm #33673Bottom of the 7th Cards up 6-4, Cubs leading 2-1 in the bottom of the 5th…
September 21, 2017 at 9:26 pm #33675Cards hang on and win 8-5. Another so-so outing by Martinez.
Cubs and Brewers tied 2-2 after seven. Braun grounded out with the bases loaded and two outs to end the Milwaukee 7th.
Need at least two of three in Pittsburgh.

September 21, 2017 at 9:26 pm #33676Cards sweep Reds. Brewers have tied Cubs in 7th.
September 21, 2017 at 9:57 pm #336773-2 Brewers in the last of the 8th. 2 on and 2 out, Villar facing Grimm.
Is this good or bad for the Redbirds???

September 21, 2017 at 10:17 pm #33678Down to their last strike in T9th, the Cubs re-tie the game.
September 21, 2017 at 10:35 pm #33680Agree with the earlier post that taking out the Cubs would be ideal. I’d like to see the Cards in that role at the end, and either win the Div or see the Brewers edge out the Cubs when we beat them. Still a long shot, but wins are better than losses and we are currently winning. Rockies are having some trouble too. Pirates are beatable, let’s see where we’re at late Sunday.
September 21, 2017 at 10:42 pm #33682Rockies trail 1-0 in the last of the 6th in San Diego.
Cubs and Brewers to extra innings. Cubs starting to show that dreaded resiliency.

September 21, 2017 at 10:44 pm #33683Cubs now lead 5-3 in the top of the 10th. Kris Bryant a two run dinger. At least we can inch closer to Milwaukee, and perhaps Colorado.

September 21, 2017 at 11:16 pm #33684Cubs won the game and the Rockies are down 3-0 in the bottom of the 7th…

Participant1.5 games out of the wild card.
September 22, 2017 at 8:31 am #33698Dang, was rooting for Milwaukee. That was a wild one, as the breaks went the Cubs way in the last couple of innings. Might be better for us that Chicago won, since realistically our chances at the WC are better than at the division title. But I don’t want the Cubs to win the division a second straight year.
