If Pena is smart, he will go to Memphis. He isn’t going to find a better situation anywhere else. My guess is that he will do it. I don’t base that on any inside info, but on the fact that he has bounced around a lot (and did not go elsewhere this winter), so perhaps he has a more realistic view of his options. Late in camps, a number of catchers are often cut loose, making the hill to find a new home even taller. Finding an MLB job late in camps/early in the season is going to be almost impossible.
The Cards have Joe Hudson ready even if Pena leaves.
