Of the four major American professional team sports, I’d say that Big League baseball is far and away the silliest and most inane sports wagering proposition. I’d also say that anyone who is at all practiced in the art of handicapping knows this to be the case and that most gamblers who imagine themselves to realize some sort of profit steer entirely clear of the proposition. I base this view on the precise same reasons that are the reasons that I happen to find watching Big League baseball to be so incredibly exciting and entertaining. The fact is that it’s entirely unpredictable and almost anything can happen at any time to change the final outcome of a contest. And more times than not, when the seemingly impossible does indeed happen, it happens in a big hurry. I’d also say that anyone who loses their hard earned money as a result of wagering on baseball should never utter nary a complaint about their loss. My dad used to use a phrase to drive home a point to both my younger brother and myself and that phrase was, “If you’re going to be a sucker, be a quiet one.”
