I would not characterize it that way. At the time of the trade Montas was 28 and his arm had been subjected to a full season of a starter’s workload once, in 2021, the season prior to the trade, plus the partial season that year before he came over to the Yankees.
Neither Montas’s age nor the amount of wear and tear on his arm was cause for concern. Yet he is out and the Yankees are screwed anyway. That is really the lesson here.
