Maybe because he can’t bunt?
By that I mean he feels like he is incapable of bunting the ball toward’s thirdbase. He’s not the fastest guy and unless he bunts it far enough the pitcher would probably be able to field it and throw him out. Besides, like all the other big league players nowadays all Carpenter wants to do is slug.
And not to worry, I am sure many others have wondered the same thing.
More than likely we won’t have to worry about him in 2022. The only way he is back in St. Louis next year is if he has a renaissance the rest of this year AND the DH is brought to the NL next year.
