A classic Tony-ism. Not quite on the same level as “Men not machines” and “Boy, I would love to manage against you!” (standard response to a stupid question).
My Tony La Russa story: I’m in Cardinals camp, one March morning. I stop by Tony’s office, just to say hello for a quick moment. “How are you doing?” I ask. Tony barely looks up from desk. “Ask me in 6 hours,” he says. As in, after the game. Every. Pitch. Matters. To. Him.
