I predicted Gallegos over a year ago to be the 2020 closer, I’m sticking with that prediction. Something else to consider, the new 3 batter rule might make the “closer by committee” thing more common, not just with the Cards but all over the league.
Nyquis, I love your Cecil idea so they actually recoup a little of that $30M investment, I would unfortunately put the likely hood of that being less than the chance the Cards trade for Arenado.
The lack of a proven closer doesn’t worry me nearly as much as the lack of more than two proven bats.
Gallegos, CMart/Kim, Helsley, Miller, Gant, Brebbia, Ponce, JFern, Cecil, Reyes, Webb, Cabrera, Woodford and then Mo uses Whitley and Hicks as the big mid season addition. That’s without a doubt the deepest and top to bottom solid bullpen that I ever remember them having. Hopefully they don’t ruin anyone else like they did Gant after over using him due to lack of other dependable options last April and May.
