Even if St. Louis Cardinals spring training games are publicized as being sold out in advance, they are not really sold out. For all contests at Roger Dean Stadium – whether the Cardinals or Miami Marlins are the home club – tickets for the area called the berm do not go on sale until the morning of each game.
The berm is the sloped, grassy area long the right field line that juts in at an angle toward the field of play. Tickets for the berm are sold on a first-come, first-served basis each game day starting at 9:00 A.M. Fans then line up outside Gate C of Roger Dean Stadium.
Once the gates open, fans scramble to secure a spot to place down a blanket on the grass. The prime locations on the berm are along the lower, front edge next to the padded concrete wall. There, one is literally right next to the two aluminum benches where the relievers sit during the games and sometimes banter with the fans.
Before and after the action on the field, these can be some of the best areas to secure autographs. Because of that, traffic can become a bit congested.
Like all spring games, berm ticket prices vary by day of the week and opponent. Regular game tickets are $15 for Monday through Friday games and $20 on weekends. Exceptions are the premium games (Sunday’s Red Sox contest and the Yankees’ visit on March 7), priced at $25 each.
