The St. Louis Cardinals have reduced their Spring Training roster to 58 players. Five of 10 players re-assigned to minor league camp are ranked prospects, including three in the Top 10.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced the team has reduced its Spring Training roster to 58 players today (Tuesday, March 5), with 10 players being re-assigned to minor league camp.
The team re-assigned non-roster pitchers Andre Granillo, Tink Hence, Packy Naughton, Max Rajcic, Victor Santos and Logan Sawyer, catchers Leonardo Bernal, Sammy Hernandez and Carlos Linárez, and outfielder Moisés Gómez to minor league camp.

There are no big surprises here in the first round of cuts, entirely made up of non-roster invitees. The group includes six pitchers (one of whom is rehabbing – Naughton), three A-ball catchers and a former 40-man roster outfielder (Gómez).
However, their relatively short stay in big league camp doesn’t mean they aren’t promising players. In fact, three are ranked in the Top 10 in The Cardinal Nation’s Prospect List for 2024. Hence is no. 2, Bernal is no. 9 and Rajcic is 10th. Also, Gómez is 22nd and Granillo is 26th.
In limited spring action, Hence tossed four scoreless innings and Rajcic was charged with one run in three frames, including a 1-2-3 ninth inning Tuesday. Granillo yielded one run in one inning.
Gómez singled and struck out in five at-bats and Bernal drew a free pass in his only spring plate appearance.
With St. Louis having no game on Wednesday, the timing of these moves was planned to give the 10 players the customary extra day to change camps. Accordingly, minor league camp is growing from 115 to 125 players in the process.
