Only with the publication of the St. Louis Cardinals 2015 Media Guide did I learn of the untimely passing of Cardinals scout Rodny Jimenez. Despite no preexisting symptoms, Jimenez suffered a heart attack on June 4, 2014 and died at the age of 32.
Starting in 2012, Jimenez had been employed by the team as an area scout in his native Dominican Republic. The most prominent event of the 2012 graduate of the MLB Scouting School Program’s scouting career may have been his key role in the signing of Alex Reyes, one of the organization’s top pitching prospects.
As a player, Jimenez was signed by the Atlanta Braves as a pitcher in 1999. He played six minor league seasons, his final three in the US, advancing to Class-A.
Jimenez is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, and two children, Rodny, Jr. and Roselyn.
