Cardinals Prospects to Play Twice in MLB Spring Breakout

The first ever “Spring Breakout” is a series of 16 exhibition games to be held March 14-17, 2024 between top prospects of all 30 Major League Baseball teams. The seven-inning games, giving minor leaguers greater exposure, will be held in major league spring training stadiums. Twelve of the 16 contests will precede major league spring training games in a doubleheader format.

The teams of players competing in “Spring Breakout” will be made up of 23 to 27 of that organization’s top minor league prospects regardless of level. Any player who has not exhausted MLB rookie qualification is eligible to participate. So, Masyn Winn and others on down could be asked to play. The rosters of players involved will be announced on March 7.

St. Louis Cardinals prospects will play in two exhibitions. First, they will take on Miami Marlins prospects at 2:05 p.m. ET Friday, March 15 at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter. The second half of the twin bill will feature the two major league teams that evening at 6:05 p.m.

The second Cardinals “Spring Breakout” game will be held on Sunday, March 17 against Houston Astros prospects, also at Roger Dean. The doubleheader, starting at 10:05 a.m., will conclude with the major leaguers from St. Louis facing Houston at 1:05 p.m.

Because these are both considered doubleheader days, tickets purchased for the MLB game following are also good for the earlier Spring Breakout game.

Because of geography, 32 games rather than 30 are required to include all teams. With MLB teams split 15-15 between Florida and Arizona, both the Cardinals (Grapefruit) and the Cincinnati Reds (Cactus) will appear in two games so that every other team can play once.
