On Thursday morning, the St. Louis Cardinals and the City of St. Louis disclosed an agreement has been reached to allow the team to play its initial home games of the 2021 regular season with up to 32% capacity (approximately 14,500).

“We are excited to have our fans back in the stands for the upcoming season,” Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III said.

April games are the first to go on sale. Season ticket holders may purchase tickets to two April homestands consisting of four series – with the Milwaukee Brewers and Washington Nationals from the 8th through the 14th and the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies from the 23rd through the 29th.

These will be the first games played at Busch Stadium with fans in attendance since the 2019 playoffs due to the ongoing pandemic. Hopes are that later in the season, the distancing requirements can be relaxed and a return to full capacity (45,538) might be possible.

Among safeguards approved by the city health department to prevent the spread of the virus are six-feet distanced seating pods of no more than four people, a mask requirement except when fans are actively eating or drinking, cashless transactions and game tickets delivered electronically.

Fans will enter and exit the ballpark through one of six designated gates only with no re-entry, bags are prohibited (except medical and diaper bags), hand sanitizer dispensers will be placed throughout Busch, air-handling systems have been upgraded and staff members will be receive daily health and temperature screenings.

“Thank you to the entire Cardinals organization for working with us to develop a comprehensive and thoughtful reopening plan that prioritizes everyone’s health and safety,” said St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson.
