Cardinals Minors Spring Camp Report – March 24, 2023

Selected St. Louis Cardinals-provided stats from the organization’s minor league spring training games with the Washington on Friday, March 24. Our Player of the Day is Memphis lefty Matthew Liberatore, who threw five shutout innings.

On Friday, March 24, the St. Louis Cardinals minor leaguers had a split day against their counterparts from the Washington Nationals. Memphis and Springfield played in West Palm Beach while the two Class-A games were held on Fields 2 and 5 of the George Kissell Quad at the Roger Dean Stadium complex in Jupiter. The Cardinals went 3-1, with Springfield shut out..

The Cardinals are labeling their teams “Working Groups”, which is an important reminder that these rosters are written in pencil and change daily. Over a dozen players are yet to be sent down from big-league camp over the next few days.

TCN’s Friday Player of the Day

Matthew Liberatore

Matthew Liberatore (and Dakota Hudson) may have lost out on the competition to be the sixth starter (now fifth with Adam Wainwright’s injury), but the lefty continues his solid spring, now with Memphis.

In his final start with St. Louis, he threw five one-run innings with six strikeouts against Detroit on Saturday. Overall in big league camp for the spring, The Cardinal Nation’s eighth-ranked prospect for 2023 had a 1.80 ERA in 10 innings with nine strikeouts.

Next games

On Saturday, March 24, the Cardinals play two games against the Mets in Port St. Lucie. Game time is 1:00 p.m. Eastern.
