Memphis – off

Wednesday’s game:  Memphis (58-67) vs Charlotte (47-78)(CHW), 1:15 pm ET/12:15 pm CT,  Connor Thomas (5-4, 3.29)

DSL Cardinals Blue 3 vs DSL Angels 6The DSL Cardinals Blue (20-36) mustered just three hits in their 6-3 home loss to the DSL Angels (29-26).

The C-Blue added five base-on-balls to their trio of hits and only one player garnered at least one of each.  Designated hitter and Player of the Day Robelin Lopez singled once in two at-bats, worked two walks and drove in one run, batting sixth.

Centerfielder Jose Cordoba went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and run scored in the clean-up spot.  All three C-Blue tallies were unearned.

Starter Hancel Rincon (L, 0-2) lasted just three innings, giving up three runs on three hits and three free passes issued.  The righty also committed his second error on an attempted pickoff.

Both tallies charged to Victor Herrera in the second of his two-inning stint were unearned due to a catcher’s interference call on Justin Guerrero.  Herrera yielded two hits and a base-on-balls.  Carlos De La Cruz recorded three outs, permitting a run on a hit, walk and hit batsman.

Alexander Beltre composed the best pitching effort of the day.  The lefty retired all six batters faced, striking out two.  Juan Salas worked around a lead-off single and stolen base for a clean ninth.

DSL Cardinals Red 2 at DSL Mets2 4  (7)
The DSL Cardinals Red (26-28) barely escaped being on the short end of a no-hitter, falling to the DSL Mets2, 4-2, in seven frames.

The C-Red’s sole hit occurred in the game’s last stanza and it was a big one.  Second baseman Samil De La Rosa was plunked to open the frame.  For the second time in as many games, first baseman Francis Reynoso came to the plate with a runner aboard in the final inning and blasted a home run.  It was the 18-year-old’s third long ball in 105 at-bats this season.

Starter Diorys Guerrero (L, 3-2) was tagged with three scores on six hits and a hit batsman over five innings.  Darlin Saladin gave up a run on a walk, two wild pitches and RBI double in the sixth.

All four runs yielded by C-Blue pitchers were earned despite three bobbles.  Reynoso was charged with a missed catch error, whereas centerfielder Carlos Carmona committed a fielding miscue.  Shortstop Marcelo Perez had one of his throws go awry, his seventh bobble versus the first for both Reynoso and Carmona.
