The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-1 on Wednesday. The Players of the Day are the Springfield offense, which scored 16 runs in a rout of the Arkansas Travelers. The offense was led by Rainiel Rodriguez, who was 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. Cade McGee had four RBI and was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Jesús Báez had four RBI and two runs scored. Jack Gurevitch was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Other standouts included Tai Peete, Ryan Campos, Liam Doyle, Zach Levenson, and Ramon Mendoza.

The Redbirds fell to the Tides in an 8-4 loss at AutoZone Park on Wednesday. Starter Pete Hansen pitched four innings, gave up one run on four hits and fanned four. Hansen took the loss.
Austin Love relieved Hansen and surrendered five runs in 1/3 innings of relief. Andrew Schultz threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Bobby Olsen yielded two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Jared Shuster hurled a scoreless eighth. Ryan Fernandez tossed a scoreless ninth.
Norfolk took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. They added five runs in the top of the fifth to lead 6-0.
Memphis answered with a run in the home half of the fifth to cut the lead to 6-1. Trey Paige singled. Graysen Tarlow singled. Paige scored on a wild pitch.
The Redbirds added two runs in the sixth on a two-run home run by Zach Levenson to shrink the lead to 6-3.
The Tides extended their lead to 8-3 in the seventh. In the eighth, Memphis scored one final run to bring the final score to 8-4. Ramon Mendoza doubled. Levenson was hit by a pitch. Noah Mendlinger walked. Dakota Harris walked, and Mendoza came home.
The offense scored four runs on 10 hits. Levenson was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Mendoza was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Moore and Tarlow were each 2-for-4.
Moore stole his 13th base.
Memphis is 30-35 in the second half and is 8.5 games back of the Rochester Red Wings in the International League.
Thursday’s game: vs Norfolk, Brandt Thompson RHP (3-2, 4.30) vs. TBD 6:45 CT.
The Cardinals walloped the Travelers by a 16-6 score in Springfield on Wednesday. Starter Liam Doyle pitched five innings, gave up two runs on one hit, walked two and fanned five to earn his seventh win.
Jose Davila relieved Doyle and surrendered one run in the sixth. Randel Clemente threw a scoreless seventh. Nolan Sparks relinquished three runs in the eighth. Jack Findlay tossed a scoreless ninth.
Springfield went up 5-0 in the first inning. Rainiel Rodriguez singled. Jesús Báez reached on a fielder’s choice and advanced to second on a throwing error. Rodriguez advanced to third on the error. Rodriguez scored on a sac fly by Jack Gurevitch. Deniel Ortiz walked. Ryan Campos singled to score Báez. Ortiz came home on a wild pitch. Cade McGee hit a two-run home run.
The Cardinals added three runs in the second to increase the lead to 8-0. Tai Peete singled, and Rodriguez followed with a two-run home run. Jack Gurevitch thumped a solo home run.
Springfield extended the lead to 12-0 with a four-run third inning. Campos singled. Cade McGee blasted his second two-run home run. Ian Petrutz singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Tai Peete singled. Rodriguez doubled to plate Petrutz. Peete scored on a groundout by Báez.
The Cardinals ran up the score to 16-0 with four runs scored in the fifth. Petrutz tripled and scored on a double by Peete. Rodriguez singled. Báez hit a three-run home run.
Arkansas got on the board with three runs in the sixth. They put up three more runs in the eighth to bring the final score to 16-6.
The Cardinals scored 16 runs on 18 hits. Rodriguez was 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. McGee was 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Peete was 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Gurevitch was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Campos was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Báez had four RBI and two runs scored. Petrutz was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Ortiz was 2-for-4.
Springfield is 45-20 in the second half and is in first place in the Texas League North.
