Cardinals Minor League Notebook Postseason Edition – September 8, 2018

Game 3 of the PCL American Conference Championship series between the Memphis Redbirds and the Oklahoma City Dodgers was the only game on the system schedule on Friday.  Our Player of the Day is Memphis infielder Max Schrock, who went 3-for-5 and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Redbirds.

Memphis 5, Oklahoma City 4

The Redbirds pulled off the walk off win against the Dodgers in Game 3 of the PCL American Conference Championship series on Friday night.  Memphis took the 1-0 lead in the third inning when Tommy Edman led off with a walk and scored on an Alex Mejia single.  The Dodgers came back in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

The Redbirds added a run in the home half of the sixth. Randy Arozarena doubled and scored on a single by Edman.  The score remained 3-2 in favor of the Dodgers until the top of the eighth, when Oklahoma City scored a run to take a 4-2 lead.

A ninth inning rally brought the win to Memphis.  Edman singled to lead off the inning.  Wilfredo Tovar grounded out to move Edman to second.  Rangel Ravelo then singled to bring Edman home.  Edmundo Sosa pinch ran for Ravelo and Mejia singled to advance Sosa to second.  Lane Thomas singled to plate Sosa and Mejia moved to second.  Max Schrock singled and Mejia scored for the 5-4 walk off victory.

Chris Ellis started on the bump for Memphis.   Ellis gave up three runs on four hits in five innings pitched.  The right hander fanned seven and walked three.  Genesis Cabrera followed with a scoreless sixth.   Landon Beck surrendered one run in 1 1/3 innings pitched, and Tommy Layne got the final two outs of the eighth. Andrew Morales pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the win.

Memphis now leads the Conference Series 2-1.  Game 4 will be played in Memphis on Saturday.

Peoria – off day

The Chiefs had an off day Friday as they prepare to begin the first game of the Western Division Semifinal series against Cedar Rapids on Saturday.  The Chiefs swept Quad Cities to advance to Round two.

Saturday’s game:  vs. Cedar Rapids, Angel Rondon 6:35 CT.
