Game 3 of the PCL Championship Series won by the Memphis Redbirds over the Fresno Grizzlies was the System’s only game on Friday. The Redbirds are up 2-1. Our Player of the Day is Memphis DH Alex Mejia, who went 3-for-5 with a double and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th on a walk-off bunt single.

Memphis 2, Fresno 1 (11 innings)
The Redbirds took the 2-1 series lead in the PCL Championship Series over the Grizzlies on Friday night in Memphis. Chris Ellis got the start and went 5 1/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits while fanning five and walking three. The bullpen was fantastic, keeping Fresno scoreless for the remainder of the game, with Genesis Cabrera, Giovanny Gallegos and Conner Greene tossing a total of 5 2/3 scoreless innings. Greene earned the win.
The Redbirds offense got on the board first in the third inning on back to back doubles by Edmundo Sosa and Tommy Edman. After Fresno tied it up in the sixth, the game remained tied and went into extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th, Edman singled to center, then advanced to third on a pickoff attempt throwing error. Rangel Ravelo was intentionally walked. Alex Mejia’s bunt single on a squeeze play scored Edman and won the game in a walk off. Mejia went 3-for-5 with a double and the winning RBI bunt single.
The Redbirds take the 2-1 series lead into Game 4 in Memphis on Saturday.

Peoria – off day
The Peoria Chiefs had an off day Friday as they prepare to play Game 3 of the Midwest League Championship Series in Bowling Green on Saturday. The series is tied 1-1.
