The St. Louis Cardinals system went 1-2 on Thursday with a cancellation in Springfield. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Osvaldo Tovalin, went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in Peoria’s win. Other standouts include Iván Herrera, Trent Baker and Nathan Church.

After an almost three-hour on-field delay, the Memphis Redbirds (20-10) fell to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (MIA, 14-14) at AutoZone Park.
Starter Tommy Parsons surrendered three runs on five hits and a walk in 3 1/3 innings. Grant Black came in relief and yielded six runs in only 1 1/3 innings. The right-hander was touched for five hits and a walk.
After the Jumbo Shrimp scored two in the first, the Redbirds responded with a run in the home half. Iván Herrera doubled to score Masyn Winn. In the third, Herrera blasted a two-run homer to take the lead. Oscar Mercado hit a solo shot to make the score 4-2. Moisés Gómez brought in a run via sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Andrew Suárez pitched a scoreless 2 1/3 innings with three strikeouts. Ryan Loutos tossed two perfect innings with two strikeouts.
The lineup had nine hits, two walks and left seven runners on base. Herrera went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Mercado had two hits. Masyn Winn recorded two hits including a triple, one walk and came across twice.
Winn stole his 10th bag of the season.

Springfield Cardinals vs. Arkansas Travelers – Postponed
Due to inclement weather, the Springfield Cardinals and Arkansas Travelers contest at Hammons Field was postponed due to weather. It will be made up on Saturday as part of a doubleheader.
Friday’s game: vs. Arkansas, LHP Kenny Hernandez (2-0, 5.06) vs. RHP Bryan Woo (0-0, 1.59) 6:35 CT
The Peoria Chiefs (12-12) topped the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (MIL, 8-15) on Thursday night at Dozer Park.
Trent Baker tossed five scoreless innings and gave up four hits and a walk. TCN’s no. 25 prospect struck out five and earned his second win of the year.
The Chiefs scored all seven runs in the first two innings. In the first, Nathan Church blasted his first professional homer, a solo shot. Osvaldo Tovalin doubled to plate Jimmy Crooks (single) and Aaron McKeithan (walk). Tyler Reichenborn hit his second home run of the season to make the score 5-0.
In the second, McKeithan walked with the bases loaded. Tovalin singled to score another run and increase the lead to 7-0.
Gustavo Rodriguez yielded two runs in two innings on three hits, one walk and four strikeouts. Leonardo Taveras surrendered three runs in only 1/3 of an inning. Andrew Marrero closed out the final 1 2/3 innings to earn his fifth save of the year.
The Chiefs recorded eight hits, seven walks and seven runs in the contest. Tovalin went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Church had a homer and two walks. McKeithan and Ramon Mendoza walked twice.

Palm Beach 0, Daytona Tortugas 8
The Palm Beach Cardinals (13-11) were blanked by the Daytona Tortugas (CIN, 9-15) at Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday.
Pete Hansen surrendered six runs in four innings on five hits, five walks and five strikeouts. TCN’s no. 16 prospect took his first professional loss. Tanner Jacobson yielded two runs in 1 1/3 innings.
The Beach Birds had their greatest chance in the second inning after Carlos Linarez, Adanson Cruz and Chris Rotondo walked. With the bases loaded and two out, Brody Moore flied out to center field.
Michael Brettell pitched a scoreless 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. John Lynch tossed a scoreless eighth inning and Chandler Arnold pitched a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.
The lineup had four hits, seven walks and left 11 runners on base. Rotondo recorded two hits and a walk. Michael Curialle walked twice. The pitching gave up eight hits and nine walks but struck out 10.
