The St. Louis Cardinals system was 4-1 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Palm Beach DH Miguel Villarroel, was 4-for-5 with two RBI. Other standouts include Quinn Mathews, Pete Hansen, Zack Thompson, Andre Pallante, Edwin Nuñez and Nathan Church.

The Memphis Redbirds blanked the Knights by the score of 5-0 on Friday in Charlotte. Starter Zack Thompson pitched four scoreless innings, allowed two hits, no walks and struck out four.
Andre Pallante relieved Thompson and threw four scoreless innings to earn his first Triple-A win of 2024. Chris Roycroft tossed a scoreless ninth.
Memphis took the lead in the first inning on a solo home run by Thomas Saggese. The lead increased to 2-0 in the third. Saggese was hit by a pitch and César Prieto singled. Jordan Walker reached on an error. Matt Koperniak grounded into a force out and Saggese scored.
The Redbirds added three runs in the seventh for a 5-0 lead. Dylan Carlson singled. Saggese was hit by a pitch. Prieto doubled and Carlson scored. Luken Baker plated Saggese and Prieto on a double.

Memphis scored five runs on nine hits. Prieto was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Baker had two RBI. Rehabber Carlson led off and played the entire game in center field, going 1-for-4 with a walk. His average is .273.
Memphis is 15-15 for the season.

Springfield 9 at Tulsa 4 (seven innings, Game 1)
The Cardinals beat the Drillers in Game 1 of a twin bill on Friday in Tulsa. Starter Edwin Nuñez pitched four scoreless, hitless innings, struck out three and walked one.
Trent Baker relieved Nuñez and surrendered four runs in three innings. Baker still received the win.
Springfield went up 3-0 in the second inning. Aaron McKeithan and Mike Antico walked and both came home on Jeremy Rivas’ double. Rivas came home on Bryan Torres’ single.
The Cardinals made it 6-0 in the third on a solo home run by Nathan Church and a two-run home run by Matt Lloyd. In the top of the sixth, the lead became 9-0. Antico singled. Noah Mendlinger walked. Jacob Buchberger singled and Antico scored. Rivas singled. Bryan Torres plated Mendlinger on a single. Buchberger scored on a sacrifice double play by Matt Carpenter.
Tulsa finally scored one run in the home half of the sixth. They added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh.
The Cardinals scored nine runs on 10 hits. Torres was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Antico was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Rivas was 2-for-3 with two RBI. First baseman Carpenter went 1-for-2, a double, and a walk.
Rivas made a fielding error.
Springfield 7 at Tulsa 4 (seven innings, Game 2)
In the second game of the twin bill, the Cardinals defeated the Drillers by a 7-4 score. Starter Max Rajcic pitched 5 1/3 innings, gave up four runs on five hits, struck out five and walked two for his third win of the season.
Matt Svanson relieved Rajcic and threw 2/3 of a scoreless inning. Andre Granillo tossed a scoreless seventh to earn his second save.
Springfield put up four runs in the top of the first inning. Bryan Torres reached on an error and eventually scored on a single by Nathan Church. R.J. Yeager drew a walk. Matt Lloyd singled. Jimmy Crooks reached on an error as Church and Yeager scored. Lloyd came home on a sac fly by Chandler Redmond.
The Drillers came back in the home half of the first to cut the lead to 4-3, then tied the game in the second inning.
The Cardinals broke the tie with two runs in the third. Lloyd and Crooks singled and both came home on a single by Jeremy Rivas.
Springfield took a 6-4 lead into the seventh and added a run to make it 7-4. Torres walked, stole second base, and was driven by Church’s single.

The Cardinals scored seven runs on eight hits. Church was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Lloyd was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Rivas had two RBI.
On the base paths, Torres stole his 10th base of the season. Church swiped his sixth bag. Rivas was picked off and caught stealing.
Springfield is 17-8 on the season.
Saturday’s game: at Tulsa, Ian Bedell RHP (1-1, 6.05) vs. Yon Castro RHP (0-0, 0.00) 7:00 CT.
The Peoria Chiefs were blanked 1-0 by the Kernels on Friday. Starter Pete Hansen pitched six scoreless innings, allowed three hits, struck out eight and walked two.
Tanner Jacobson relieved Hansen and threw a scoreless seventh. Inohan Paniagua surrendered one unearned run in the final 1 2/3 innings.
This game was scoreless until the bottom of the ninth inning. In the home half of that inning Cedar Rapids took the walk off win on a fielding error by left fielder Zach Levenson.
The Chiefs offense was held to three hits. Joshua Baez was 2-for-2 with his double the only extra base hit. Michael Curialle had the other hit, a single.
On the base paths, Baez stole his fourth base of the season. In the field, Zach Levenson committed the costly fielding error but also had an outfield assist at second base earlier.
Peoria is 8-17 on the season.
Saturday’s game: at Cedar Rapids, Hancel Rincon RHP (1-2, 5.03) vs. Darren Bowen RHP (1-2, 5.84) 6:35 CT.
The Palm Beach Cardinals clobbered the Tortugas in a 7-1 home win on Friday. Starter and The Cardinal Nation April Pitcher of the Month Quinn Mathews pitched 6 1/3 innings, gave up one run on three hits, struck out six and walked one to earn his third win of the season.
Henry Gomez relieved Mathews and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Zack Showalter tossed the final 1 1/3 scoreless innings to earn his first save.
The Beach Birds scored one run in the first inning. Trey Paige doubled and came home on a single by Miguel Villarroel. They added a second run in the third as Paige walked, advanced to second on a passed ball and was driven in by another Villarroel single and an error.
Daytona cut the lead to 2-1 in the seventh. Palm Beach ran up the score with five runs in the eighth. Chase Davis walked and came home on a double by Luis Piño. Lizandro Espinoza reached on an error. Tre Richardson was hit by a pitch. Paige walked and Piño crossed the plate. Espinoza scored on a wild pitch. Richardson came home on a sac fly by Brayden Jobert. Villarroel plated Paige on a double.
The Cardinals scored seven runs on nine hits. Villarroel was 4-for-5 with two RBI. Chase Adkison was 2-for-3.
On the base paths, Davis stole his first base of the season. Jose Cordoba was caught stealing. In the field, Cordoba made a throwing error. Jobert had a missed catch error.
Palm Beach is 15-10 for the season.
