The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 1-0 on Monday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis first baseman Luken Baker, hit two home runs, walked twice and drove in four. Other standouts include Michael Siani, Jimmy Crooks and Curtis Taylor. We set up Tuesday’s schedule.
Memphis Redbirds 6 at Durham Bulls 1
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds took the series opener over the Bulls in Durham on Monday.
Curtis Taylor made his sixth start of the season for Memphis. The right-hander pitched five scoreless innings on four hits, two walks, and six strikeouts. Taylor collected his third win without a loss.
Roddery Muñoz allowed one run and fanned three across 1 ⅔ innings in relief. Oddanier Mosqueda followed with 1 ⅓ scoreless frames. Riley O’Brien finished the game with a scoreless ninth.
Memphis broke the scoreless tie with four runs in the top of the third inning. Michael Siani doubled and swiped third base. Thomas Saggese followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Jimmy Crooks lined a double to plate Siani for the first run of the game.

Luken Baker blasted his fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot, to put the Redbirds in front 4-0.

The Redbirds added a run in the sixth. Brody Moore singled and stole second base. Siani doubled in Moore to extend the lead to 5-0.

Durham plated their first run in the seventh to cut the lead to 5-1.
In the ninth inning, Memphis regained the five-run lead as Baker launched his second home run of the game, a solo shot.

Memphis slugged five extra-base hits in the victory.
The Redbirds scored six runs on nine hits. Baker was 2-for-3, including two walks, two home runs, and four RBI. Siani recorded two doubles, a walk, a run scored, and one RBI. Crooks doubled twice, scored a run, and tallied one RBI. Crooks leads the Redbirds with 36 RBI for the season.
Memphis was active on the bases. Siani swiped three, including third base twice, to increase his season total to seven. Bryan Torres stole his seventh bag. Moore swiped his third.
On defense, third baseman Moore made a throwing error.
Memphis is 28-22 on the season. They are off Tuesday and will resume the series at Durham on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s game: at Durham, RHP Michael McGreevy (5-1, 3.22) vs. TBA. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 PM CT.
Springfield Cardinals (off-day)
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals were off Monday, as they traveled home to Hammons Field to begin a six-game set with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Tuesday.
The Cardinals are hot after taking five of six from the Tulsa Drillers on the road. They have won seven of their last eight games.
Springfield is 24-21 on the season and are tied for first place with the Arkansas Travelers in the Texas League North Division.
Tuesday’s game: vs. Northwest Arkansas (KC). RHP Max Rajcic (1-3, 4.98) vs. TBA. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CT.
Peoria Chiefs (off-day)
The High-A Peoria Chiefs were off Monday, as they traveled to Neuroscience Group Field in Appleton, Wisconsin, to begin a six-game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday. The Chiefs have won five of their last eight games.
Peoria is 18-26 on the season following a series split with the Dayton Dragons at home and reside in fifth place in the Midwest League West Division.
Tuesday’s game: at Wisconsin (MIL). RHP Jose Davila (2-2, 7.01) vs. TBA. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM CT.
Palm Beach Cardinals (off-day)
The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals were off Monday, as they traveled to Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida, to begin a six-game set with the St. Lucie Mets on Tuesday. The first three games will be on the road with the latter three games at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Palm Beach is 22-23 on the season and are two games back of first-place St. Lucie in the Florida State League West Division.
Tuesday’s game: at St. Lucie (NYM). RHP Tink Hence (AAA rehab) vs. TBA. First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 PM CT.
FCL Cardinals (postponed)
The Florida Complex League Cardinals’ Monday game with the Astros was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday at Roger Dean Stadium Complex.
The FCL Cardinals will head to St. Lucie Sports Complex in St. Lucie, Florida, to play the FCL Mets on Tuesday.
The FCL Cardinals are 7-8 on the season. They are in third place, 3 ½ games behind the Astros.
Tuesday’s game: at FCL Mets. LH Bernard Mack (0-1, 6.75) vs. TBA. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM CT.
