The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-4 on Friday with Palm Beach dropping a doubleheader. The Cardinal Nation Player of the Day, Wilfredo Pereira, pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings with four hits allowed and 10 punchouts in Springfield’s win. Other standouts include Jimmy Crooks and Victor Scott II.

The Memphis Redbirds fell to the Tides in a five-run loss on Friday at AutoZone Park. Starter Dakota Hudson pitched three innings, gave up two runs on six hits, struck out three and walked one. Hudson took the loss, his third of the season.
Kyle Leahy surrendered one run in two innings of relief. James Naile relinquished four runs, three earned, in two innings. Ryan Loutos tossed the final two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Norfolk went up 2-0 in the first inning. They added one run in the fourth, two runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh.
Memphis was held scoreless until the ninth inning, which began with a single by Taylor Motter. Juniel Querecuto walked. Masyn Winn reached on an error. Motter scored on a sac fly by Matt Koperniak. Ivan Herrera walked. Luken Baker walked and Querecuto scored.
Winn was 2-for-5. Motter was 2-for-4.
In the field, Winn made a throwing error. Querecuto had an outfield assist at third base.
Memphis is 26-23 on the season and is tied with St. Paul for second place in the International League West, 2.5 games back of Iowa.
Saturday’s game: vs. Norfolk, RHP Tommy Parsons (0-1, 5.00) vs. Ryan Watson RHP (3-2, 3.82) 6:35 CT.
The Springfield Cardinals shut out the Wind Surge by a 1-0 scoret at Hammons Field on Friday. Starter Wilfredo Pereira pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings, allowed four hits, struck out 10 and walked two to earn his third win of the season.

Ryan Shreve relieved Pereira and threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Logan Sawyer tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save.
Springfield scored the only run of the game in the third inning. Arquimedes Gamboa drew a walk. Justin Toerner singled. Gamboa and Toerner advanced on a pop out by Mike Antico. Gamboa scored on a ground out by Jose Alvarez.
The Cardinals had just three hits, singles by Antico, Toerner, and Jacob Buchberger. The offense was 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left two men on base.
On the base paths, Antico stole his 12th bag of the season. Buchberger was caught stealing. In the field, Chandler Redmond made a throwing error. Antico had an outfield assist at home.
Springfield is 20-23 on the season and is in third place in the Texas League North, 7.5 games back of first place.
Saturday’s game: vs. Wichita, Connor Lunn RHP (1-3, 6.46) vs. Travis Adams RHP (1-4, 7.01) 6:35 CT.
The Peoria Chiefs fell to the Loons in an 11-9 slugfest at Dozer Park on Friday. Starter Alex Cornwell pitched five innings, gave up six runs, five earned, on nine hits and struck out five.
Gustavo Rodriguez surrendered three runs in three innings of relief. Leonardo Taveras relinquished two runs in the ninth. Taveras took the loss, his first of the season. For the night, Chiefs pitching gave up 15 hits but walked no one.
Peoria scored first with one run in the first inning. Victor Scott II singled and later scored on a wild pitch.
The Chiefs added two runs in the second on singles by Scott and Moquete. Great Lakes scored one run in the top of the third to cut the lead to 3-1. Peoria added on in the home half of the third via a two-run long ball by Ramon Mendoza but could not hold the 5-1 advantage.

The Loons posted four runs in the fourth to tie, 5-5. Great Lakes took a 6-5 lead in the fifth and added three more in the top of the sixth.
The Chiefs answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to decrease the lead to 9-7 on a two-run single by Jimmy Crooks.

In the eighth, Peoria tied the score again. Moquete walked and Church singled. Jeremy Rivas walked. Crooks grounded into a force out and both Moquete and Church scored on a throwing error.
The Loons came back in the ninth with two runs against Taveras to lead 11-9. The Chiefs could not answer.
Scott was 3-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored. Crooks was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Moquete was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Mendoza had two RBI.
On the base paths, Moquete was picked off second base. In the field, Osvaldo Tovalin made a fielding error.
Peoria is 21-22 on the season and is in fifth place in the Midwest League West, two games back of first place.
Saturday’s game: vs. Great Lakes, Ian Bedell RHP (2-1, 1.32) vs. Justin Wrobleski LHP (1-2, 4.22) 6:35 CT.
Palm Beach 2, Tampa 6 (seven innings, Game 1)
The Palm Beach Cardinals were defeated by the Tarpons in the first game of a twin bill on Friday at Roger Dean Stadium. Starter Brycen Mautz pitched six innings, gave up four runs, three earned on seven hits, struck out nine and walked two. Mautz took the loss, his third of the season.
John Lynch relieved Mautz and surrendered two runs in the seventh.
The Beach Birds took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Chris Rotondo doubled and advanced to third on a ground out by Carlos Linarez. Adanson Cruz singled to score Rotondo. Cruz moved to second on a wild pitch. Cruz stole third base and came home on a throwing error.
Tampa cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth and tied it up in the fifth. The Tarpons continued to score, with two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
The Cardinals offense scored two runs on just four hits. Doubles by Rotondo and Linarez were the only extra base hits. Palm Beach was 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.
On the base paths, Cruz stole his fourth base of the season. In the field, Mautz made an error on a pick off. Cruz had an outfield assist at third base.
Palm Beach 2, Tampa 5 (seven innings, Game 2)
The Cardinals were swept, losing the second game of the twin bill with the Tarpons at Roger Dean Stadium on Friday. Starter Hancel Rincon pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up five runs on five hits, struck out two and walked two. Rincon suffered his second loss of the season.
Edwin Nunez relieved Rincon and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Chandler Arnold tossed a scoreless seventh.
Once again Palm Beach took the lead early. In the first inning, Lizandro Espinoza doubled and scored on a double by R.J. Yeager.
Tampa tied the game in the top of the second. The Beach Birds answered with one run in the home half of the inning. Won-Bin Cho singled, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a balk.
The Tarpons went ahead with two runs in the third, and then added two runs in the fifth. Again, the Cardinals offense could not answer.
Cho was 2-for-3 as the only Cardinal with multiple hits.
In the field, Nunez made an error on a pickoff.
Palm Beach is 25-18 on the season and remains in first place in the FSL East with a one game lead over Jupiter.
Saturday’s game: vs. Tampa, Cade Winquest RHP (2-2, 3.54) vs. TBA 3:00 CT.
