The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 2-2 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Peoria outfielder Ian Petrutz, was 2-for-4, including a walk and three RBI. Other standouts include Matt Koperniak, Chase Davis, Pete Hansen, Dakota Harris and Quinn Mathews.

Memphis Redbirds 7 at Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 3
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds secured the series victory with a Sunday win over the Jumbo Shrimp in Jacksonville.
In a bullpen game, Ryan Shreve made his first start of the season for the Redbirds. The right-hander pitched 2 ⅔ innings and allowed one run on two hits, one walk, and one strikeout.
Michael Gomez struck out three across 1 ⅓ scoreless innings in relief of Shreve. Chris Roycroft followed and surrendered a run in one inning. Zack Weiss yielded one run across two innings. Ryan Fernandez fanned a pair of batters as he tossed two scoreless frames to finish the game. Fernandez picked up his first win of 2025.
Memphis pounced early with four runs in the top of the first inning. Thomas Saggese and Jimmy Crooks drew back-to-back walks. Matt Koperniak hit his first triple of 2025 to score both runners.

Ryan Vilade brought Koperniak home on his fourth home run of the year, a two-run blast.

Memphis added a run in the second inning to extend the lead to 5-0. Michael Siani walked, and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. César Prieto singled him in.

Jacksonville scored single runs in the second and fifth innings to trim the Memphis lead to 5-2.
The Redbirds added a pair of runs in the sixth to regain the five-run lead at 7-2. Saggese singled and moved to second base on a Crooks groundout. Vilade reached on a fielding error, with Saggese advancing. Vilade stole second base to put two runners in scoring position. Bryan Torres hit a ground-ball single to plate Saggese and Vilade.

Memphis never trailed in the series-clinching victory. The Redbirds scored seven runs on eight hits. Torres was 2-for-4, with a walk and two RBI. Koperniak tripled, walked twice, scored a run, and tallied two RBI. Vilade scored twice and hit a two-run home run. Six of the Redbirds’ seven runs were scored with two outs.
The Redbirds were flying on the bases with six steals. Torres stole two bases to increase his season total to six. Prieto snagged his third base. Vilade recorded his fourth steal. Gavin Collins swiped his first bag. Mike Antico was caught stealing second base.
On defense, Jimmy Crooks picked off a runner at third base from behind the plate.
Memphis is 27-22 after taking four of six from Jacksonville and reside in fourth place in the International League West Division. They will travel to Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina, to begin a six-game set on Monday. With the Monday holiday, the teams will take Tuesday off, instead.
Monday’s game: at Durham (TB). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 PM CT.
Springfield Cardinals 5 at Tulsa Drillers 2 (8 innings)
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals won a rain-shortened contest over the Drillers in Tulsa on Sunday.
Pete Hansen started for Springfield. The left-hander pitched five innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits, no walks, and three strikeouts. Hansen earned his third win of the season.
Luis Gastelum struck out the side in the sixth inning. Lefty Nick Raquet followed with 1 ⅓ innings of scoreless baseball. Osvaldo Berrios recorded the final two outs of the eighth inning and was credited with his second save of the year.
The Cardinals fell behind 2-0 early but tied the game in the fourth inning. Chase Davis and Dakota Harris hit solo home runs on back-to-back pitches to tie the game at two. Davis powered his fourth home run of the season, and Harris hit his fifth long-ball.

Darlin Moquete gave Springfield a 3-2 lead with his first Double-A home run, and the third solo blast of the game.

In the eighth inning, Nathan Church singled, swiped second base, and advanced to third base via a throwing error on a pickoff attempt. Leonardo Bernal launched his sixth home run, and third of the series, to score Church and stretch the lead to 5-2.

The Cardinals flexed their muscles with four home runs in the victory.
Springfield scored five runs on nine hits. Davis was 2-for-4, including a double and a home run. Harris was 2-for-4 with a home run. Moquete launched a solo home run. Bernal tallied two RBI on his home run.
On the basepaths, Jeremy Rivas swiped his 10th base. Church stole his sixth bag. Bernal was picked off at first base.
On defense, pitcher Hansen picked off a runner at first base. Catcher Wade Stauss was charged with a passed ball. The Cardinals turned two double plays.
Springfield is 24-21 on the season after taking five of six in Tulsa and reside in second place in the Texas League North Division. They will head back to Hammons Field to begin a six-game home series with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Tuesday.

Peoria Chiefs 6, Dayton Dragons 9
The High-A Peoria Chiefs fell to the Dayton Dragons in the series finale at Dozer Park on Sunday.
Chen-Wei Lin started for Peoria. The right-hander threw 4 ⅓ innings and yielded two runs, one earned, on two hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.
Tyler Bradt surrendered three runs, two earned, with a pair of strikeouts across 2 ⅔ innings in relief of Lin. D.J. Carpenter allowed three runs in just ⅔ of an inning. Hunter Hayes tossed 1 ⅓ innings and yielded a run. Bradt took the loss.
The Dragons scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning, but the Chiefs tied the game in the home half. Miguel Villarroel doubled and scored on a wild pitch, with help from a throwing error by the catcher.
Dayton regained the lead with a run in the fifth, and Peoria tied the game once more in the bottom of the inning. Bryce Madron walked and scored on Ian Petrutz’ double.

The Dragons took a 5-2 lead with a three-run seventh.
Peoria trimmed the deficit a bit with a run in the bottom of the frame. Madron walked, and Joshua Baez singled. The runners advanced on a wild pitch. Madron crossed home plate on a Petrutz groundout to make it a 5-3 game.
Dayton added three runs in the eighth inning.
Peoria scored a pair in the home eighth. Won-Bin Cho drew a walk, and moved to second base on a balk. Villarroel walked to put two runners on base. Johnfrank Salazar ripped a double to plate Cho and Villarroel and trim the deficit to 8-5.
The Dragons scored one run in the ninth.
The Chiefs looked to rally in the home half but scored just once. Baez started the inning with a single, and advanced to third base after a steal of second base and a throwing error. Petrutz singled to bring Baez home and cut the Dragons lead to 9-6.
The Chiefs scored nine runs on nine hits. Petrutz was 2-for-4, including a double, a walk, and three RBI. Villarroel was 2-for-4, including a double, a walk, and two runs scored. Salazar doubled and tallied two RBI. Baez recorded two singles.
On the bases, Baez swiped his 19th bag.
Defensively, third baseman Trey Paige and first baseman Brayden Jobert recorded throwing errors. Petrutz nailed a runner at home plate from left field. The Chiefs turned two double plays.
Peoria is 18-26 on the season following the series split and reside in fifth place in the Midwest League West Division. They will travel to Neuroscience Group Field in Appleton, Wisconsin, to begin a six-game set with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s game: at Wisconsin (MIL). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM CT.
Palm Beach Cardinals 2, Daytona Tortugas 4
The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals lost a close contest to the Daytona Tortugas in Sunday’s series finale at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Quinn Mathews started for Palm Beach in his second rehab outing as he works to rejoin Memphis. The left-hander pitched three scoreless innings on two hits, no walks, and four strikeouts.
Nelfy Ynfante allowed four runs over three innings in relief and took the loss. Sam Brodersen fanned three across two scoreless frames. Conor Steinbaugh tossed a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.
The Cardinals scored the first run of the game on Travis Honeyman’s second home run of the year, a solo shot.

Daytona took the lead with four runs in the fourth inning. Palm Beach narrowed the gap in the fifth.
Anyelo Encarnacion and Maikel Hernandez took back-to-back walks to start the frame. Cade McGee singled to score Encarnacion and trim the Tortugas’ lead to 4-2.
Palm Beach was unable to rally further in their third consecutive loss after leaving 10 runners on base.
The Cardinals scored two runs on seven hits. Honeyman launched a solo home run. McGee walked, singled and recorded one RBI. Encarnacion singled and walked twice. Yordalin Pena tallied two singles.
Pena stole his eighth base. Christian Martin swiped his 11th bag. Deniel Ortiz snagged his 12th base. The Cardinals did not commit an error.
Palm Beach is 22-23 on the season following the series split with Daytona and are two games back of first place in the Florida State League West Division. They will travel to Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida, to begin a six-game set with the first-place St. Lucie Mets on Tuesday. The first three games will be on the road with the latter three games at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Tuesday’s game: at St. Lucie (NYM). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 PM CT.
FCL Cardinals (off-day)
The Florida Complex League Cardinals were off Sunday and will take on the FCL Astros at Roger Dean Stadium Complex on Monday.
The FCL Cardinals are 7-8 on the season.
