Cardinals Minor League Notebook – May 21, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-5 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’ Player of the Day, Springfield’s Mason Molina, pitched five scoreless innings on only two hits and struck out five. Other standouts include Hunter Dobbins, Joshua Báez, Brandt Thompson, Ryan Mitchell, Jan Cabrera and Juan Rujano.

Memphis 2 at Iowa 3

The Triple-A Redbirds were edged by the Cubs by a 3-2 score on Tuesday.

Starter Hunter Dobbins pitched seven innings, gave up two runs on three hits and struck out three. The right-hander had a perfect game through five innings.

Cade Winquest relieved Dobbins and threw a scoreless eighth. Chris Roycroft surrendered an unearned run in the final 1/3 inning.

The game was scoreless until the sixth, when the Cubs took a 1-0 lead. They added a run in the seventh.

Memphis tied the game in the top of the ninth. Blaze Jordan singled and Miguel Villarroel pinch ran. Leo Bernal doubled. Villarroel scored on a sac fly by Nelson Velázquez. Bligh Madris plated Bernal on a single.

Iowa scored one run in the bottom of the ninth to walk off the win.

Memphis’ offense scored two runs on six hits. Joshua Báez was 3-for-4 and stole two bases. Bernal swiped his fifth bag. Villarroel made a fielding error.

Memphis is 28-19 on the season and is in first place in the International League.

Thursday’s game: at Iowa, LHP Pete Hansen (0-1, 4.44) vs. LHP Jordan Wicks, 12:08 CT.

Springfield 2 at Arkansas 3 (seven innings, game one)

The Double-A Cardinals fell to the Travelers in the opener of Wednesday’s twin bill.

Starter Mason Molina pitched five scoreless innings, allowed two hits, walked one and fanned five.

Michael Watson relieved Molina and surrendered three runs in 2/3 of an inning for the loss. Randel Clemente secured the final out of the sixth.

The Cardinals took the lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Ryan Campos. They added a run in the fourth on a solo home run by Chase Davis.

The Travelers rallied in the sixth to take the lead 3-2 and held on in the seventh for the win.

The Cardinals scored two runs on two hits, solo home runs. The offense was 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.

Rainiel Rodriguez had a passed ball.

Springfield 0 at Arkansas 10 (seven innings, game two)

The Cardinals were walloped by the Travelers by a 10-0 score in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

Starter Brandt Thompson pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up two runs on three hits, walked one and fanned nine. Thompson took the loss.

Dominic Picone relieved Thompson and surrendered two runs in 1/3 of an inning. Double-A newcomer D.J. Carpenter relinquished six runs in 2/3 of an inning. Edwin Nuñez secured the final out of the sixth.

Arkansas scored two runs in both the third and fifth innings. The Travelers continue to pile on the runs with six in the sixth for a 10-0 margin.

The Cardinals’ bats were held to four hits in total. Noah Mendlinger was 2-for-3.

Rainiel Rodriguez stole his first base for Springfield.

Springfield is 16-25 on the season. They are in last place in the Texas League North.

Thursday’s game:  at Arkansas, Chen-Wei Lin RHP (0-0, 3.95) vs. Nico Tellache LHP (2-2, 2.86) 6:35 CT.

Peoria 3, Grand Rapids 4

The High-A Chiefs fell to the Kernels by a 4-3 score at Dozer Park on Wednesday. Starter Ty Van Dyke pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up three runs on four hits, walked three and struck out two. Van Dyke took the loss in his Peoria debut.

Bobby Olsen relieved Van Dyke and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Jawilme Ramirez hurled two scoreless innings. Dominic Freeberger surrendered one run in the eighth. Christian Worley tossed a scoreless ninth.

Grand Rapids took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Peoria cut the lead to 2-1 in the third. Christian Martin doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Martin scored on a ground out by Tai Peete, who was just off the injured list.

The Kernels extended their lead to 3-1 in the fourth. In the top of the eighth, Grand Rapids made it 4-1. The Chiefs answered in the home eighth with a solo home run by Jesús Báez to cut the lead to 4-2.

Peoria had the tying and winning runs in scoring position with no outs in the ninth but could only score one run. Josh Kross, who doubled, came home on a double by Cade McGee.

The Chiefs scored three runs on six hits. Kross was 2-for-4.

Jalin Flores made a fielding error. Won-Bin Cho had an outfield assist at third base.

Peoria is 16-24 on the season. They are in last place in the Midwest League West.

Thursday’s game: vs. Grand Rapids, Nate Dohm RHP (0-3, 10.26) vs. Jason Doktorczyk RHP (3-4, 6.55) 6:35 CT.

Palm Beach 3 at St. Lucie 4

The Low-A Cardinals were edged by the Mets by a 4-3 score on Wednesday. Starter Alex Breckheimer pitched five innings, gave up three runs, two earned, on three hits, walked one and struck out three.

Yordy Herrera relieved Breckheimer and threw a scoreless sixth. Nelfy Ynfante hurled a scoreless seventh. Liam Best surrendered one run in the eighth and took the loss.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Trevor Haskins singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ryan Mitchell plated Haskins on a single.

The Mets tied the game in the home third. Palm Beach scored a run in the top of the fourth to lead 2-1. Jonathan Mejía walked and later scored on a passed ball.

St. Lucie added two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the 3-2. The Beach Birds tied it in the fifth. Ryan Mitchell walked, stole second base, advanced to third on a throwing error, and scored on a sac fly by Brayden Smith.

The Mets broke the tie with a run in the eighth to win 4-3.

The Cardinals scored three runs on eight hits. Mitchell was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Michael Dattalo was 2-for-3.

Mitchell stole his 10th base of the season. Ryan Weingartner swiped his 13th bag.

Breckheimer made a throwing error. Chase Heath was charged with catcher interference.

The Cardinals are 23-18 on the season. They are in second place in the Florida State League East.

Thursday’s game:  at St. Lucie, TBD vs. TBD 5:10 CT.

FCL Cardinals 7, FCL Marlins 0 (seven innings)

The rookie Cardinals blanked the Marlins by a 7-0 score at Roger Dean Stadium on Wednesday.

Starter Jan Cabrera pitched four scoreless innings with four hits allowed, walked one and fanned five.

Anthony Watts relieved Cabrera and threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Alejandro Lóiaza tossed the final 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

The Cardinals went up 1-0 in the first inning. Matthew Miura singled and stole second base. Sebastian Dos Santos singled to plate Miura.

The Cardinals added two runs in the second to lead 3-0. Kenly Hunter was hit by a pitch then stole second base. Royelny Stop singled and stole second base. Juan Rujano drove in Hunter and Strop on a single.

The Cardinals extended their lead to 6-0 in the fourth. Cristofer Lebrón reached first on a dropped third strike. Miura was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Lebrón scored on a wild pitch. Dos Santos and Miguel Hernández walked. Yaxson Lucena walked and Miura came home. Dos Santos scored on a walk by Hunter.

The Cardinals added a seventh run in the fifth. Rujano walked. J.P. Cabrera singled. Rujano scored on a ground out by Lebrón.

The Cardinals scored seven runs on five hits. Rujano had two RBI. Miura scored two runs.

Miura stole his first base of the season. Hunter swiped his fifth bag. Strop stole his third base. Dos Santos swiped his fourth bag.

Jan Cabrera and Hernández each made a throwing error.

The Cardinals are 5-7 on the season. They are tied for third place in the FCL East.
