Monday’s lone game in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was suspended. FCL Cardinals RHP Andrew Bolívar struck out the side in his only inning of work. We preview the upcoming week’s series.
Memphis Redbirds (off day)
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds were off Monday as they traveled to Principal Park in Des Moines, Iowa, for a six-game series with the Iowa Cubs, beginning Tuesday.
The Redbirds will look to regain momentum after taking just two of six from the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp last week.
Catcher Jimmy Crooks continues to power the Memphis lineup as he leads the team with 13 home runs and 28 RBI. The 24-year-old’s 13 home runs rank third in the International League. Crooks has also drawn 26 walks, the most on the team and is cutting down his strikeouts. Joshua Báez is progressing in his first season at the Triple-A level. The 22-year-old has belted 11 home runs with 27 RBI, second on the Redbirds in both categories, but is batting just .232.
Left-hander Bruce Zimmerman has thrown the most innings on the staff at 45 ⅓ and has won a team-most four games through nine starts. Zimmermann has also recorded the most strikeouts with 57. Fellow lefty Brycen Mautz has tossed 36 ⅓ innings with a rotation-best 2.97 ERA and 38 strikeouts.
Memphis is 27-18 on the season. The Redbirds hold a one game lead over Louisville in the International League West Division.

Springfield Cardinals (off day)
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals were off Monday as they traveled to Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock, Arkansas, for a six-game set with the Arkansas Travelers, starting Tuesday.
The Cardinals enter play following a 4-2 series win over the Tulsa Drillers on the road.
Travis Honeyman leads the Cardinals with 32 hits and a .297 batting average. The outfielder has hit a pair of home runs with 13 RBI. Fellow outfielder Chase Davis has popped six home runs with 22 RBI, leading the offense in both categories. Infielder Jeremy Rivas is close behind with five home runs and 21 RBI.
Switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje has thrown the most innings on the pitching staff at 35 ⅔ and has recorded a team-best 46 strikeouts. Right-hander Mason Burns has been dominant out of the bullpen, sporting a tidy 1.33 ERA across 20 ⅓ innings in 14 relief appearances. Burns has the most saves on the Springfield staff with four. The relief corps will welcome the arrival of D.J. Carpenter from the Peoria Chiefs. The right-hander has pitched to a 3.60 ERA with 18 strikeouts across 15 innings prior to his promotion.
Springfield is 16-23 on the season. They reside in last place in the Texas League North Division, eight games back of first.
Tuesday’s game: at Arkansas (SEA). LHP Mason Molina (0-2, 3.94) vs. RHP Michael Morales (1-1, 4.50) 6:35 PM CT.
Peoria Chiefs (off day)
The High-A Peoria Chiefs were off Monday, as they headed home to Dozer Park for a six-game series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels, beginning Tuesday.
Peoria enters the week after winning just two of six at the Beloit Sky Carp.
Won-Bin Cho has swung a powerful bat thus far as he leads the Chiefs with seven home runs and is second on the team in RBI (26). Jalin Flores is tied for second place in the Midwest League with 30 RBI. After a three extra-base-hit performance on Sunday, Josh Kross has taken the team lead in hits with 36. Kross has four home runs and drove in 16.
The Peoria rotation will be bolstered heading into the week with the addition of right-hander Ty Van Dyke. The 22-year-old led the Palm Beach staff with 33 innings and a 1.64 ERA. Van Dyke has struck out 35 hitters and has issued just eight walks. Yhoiker Fajardo has enjoyed a strong start with the Chiefs. The right-hander has thrown 28 ⅔ innings with a 2.83 ERA. Fajardo has shown great control as he has struck out 42 batters and walked just six.
Peoria is 16-22 on the season after winning two of six in Beloit. They reside in last place in the Midwest League West Division, 5.5 games out of first.

Palm Beach Cardinals (off day)
The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals were off Monday, as they travel to Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida, for a six-game series with the St. Lucie Mets, starting Tuesday.
The Cardinals enter the week with momentum following a 5-1 home series win over the Daytona Tortugas.
Switch-hitting infielder Jonathan Mejía leads Palm Beach with six home runs and 25 RBI. Fellow infielder Trevor Haskins has also hit the 20 RBI mark. Chase Heath has tallied the most hits on the team with 25 and Cameron Nickens holds a team-best .272 batting average.
On the mound, left-hander Cade Crossland has struck out a team-high 43 hitters across eight starts and 32 innings and has a 4.78 ERA. Rubén Menes has been sharp out of the bullpen with a sharp 0.73 ERA over 10 relief appearances, 12 ⅓ innings, and 13 strikeouts compared to just two walks. Antoni Cuello, Patrick Galle (now with Peoria) and Nelfy Ynfante each recorded two saves.
Palm Beach is 22-17 on the season. They are one game back of Jupiter for first place in the Florida State League East Division.
Tuesday’s game: at St. Lucie (NYM). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM CT.
FCL Cardinals vs. FCL Astros (suspended)
The Florida Complex League Cardinals’ home contest with the FCL Astros was suspended in the bottom of the first inning on Monday due to lightning in the area.
Starter Andrew Bolívar struck out the side in his only frame of work.
Matthew Miura walked and advanced to second base on a wild pitch prior to the game’s suspension and he represents the lone baserunner in the contest. This marked the first game of Miura’s rehab assignment as he works to rejoin the Palm Beach Cardinals.
The game is scheduled to be completed on Friday, May 22. There will be a runner at second base with one out in the home first at the resumption of play.
The FCL Cardinals are 4-5 on the season. They will play a road doubleheader with the FCL Nationals on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s games: at FCL Nationals. Pitching probables have not yet been announced for either game. Game one is slated to start at 9:00 AM CT with game two to follow shortly after the conclusion of the first contest.
