The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-2 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis 1B Luken Baker, was 2-for-3 with two home runs, plus a walk and three RBI. Other standouts include José Fermín, Michael McGreevy, and JJ Wetherholt.

The Triple-A Redbirds beat the Sounds by an 8-5 score at AutoZone Park on Friday.
Starter Michael McGreevy pitched five innings, gave up one unearned run on six hits and fanned five to earn his fifth win.

Michael Gomez relieved McGreevy and threw a scoreless sixth. Nick Anderson surrendered two runs in the seventh. Matt Svanson yielded one run in the eighth. Riley O’Brien allowed one run in the ninth.
Memphis went ahead 5-0 in the second inning. Luken Baker hit a solo home run. Ryan Vilade singled. César Prieto plated Vilade on a double. Prieto scored on a single by Gavin Collins. José Fermín blasted a two-run home run.

Nashville scored one run in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-1. The Redbirds added two runs in the fifth on a two-run home by Baker. Memphis scored an eighth run in the sixth. Fermín doubled and scored on a single by Thomas Saggese.

The Sounds rallied for two runs in the seventh and single runs in the eighth and ninth to bring the score to 8-5.
The Redbirds scored eight runs on 14 hits. Baker was 2-for-3 with a walk, three RBI and two runs scored. Fermín was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Prieto and Collins were both 2-for-4 with an RBI. Vilade and Matt Koperniak were each 2-for-4.
On the bases, Prieto was caught stealing. On defense, Saggese made a throwing error. Collins had a fielding miscue. Vilade had an outfield assist at second base. Gomez picked a runner off second base.
The Redbirds are 22-19 on the season.
Saturday’s game: vs. Nashville, Alex Cornwell LHP (1-2, 9.67) vs. Carlos Rodriguez RHP (2-1, 2.01) 6:35 CT.
The Double-A Cardinals were edged by the Sod Poodles by a 3-2 score at Hammons Field on Friday.
Starter Tekoah Roby pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up two runs on four hits and fanned 11.

Zane Mills relieved Roby and surrendered one run in 1 1/3 innings and took the loss. Austin Love threw a scoreless eighth. Sean Harney tossed a scoreless ninth.
The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning. Darlin Moquete singled. Nathan Church doubled. JJ Wetherholt plated Moquete and Church on a single.

Amarillo tied the game in the sixth and went up 3-2 in the seventh.
Springfield scored two runs on seven hits. Church was 2-for-3. Dakota Harris was 2-for-4. Wetherholt had two RBI.
On defense, Church had an outfield assist at third base.
Springfield is 17-20 on the season.

The High-A Chiefs were clobbered by the Kernels in a 13-2 road loss on Friday. Starter Gerardo Salas pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up 11 runs on 12 hits, struck out one and walked three. Salas took the loss.
Hunter Hayes relieved Salas and surrendered one run in 1 1/3 innings. Jawilme Ramirez yielded one unearned run in the final two innings.
Cedar Rapids went up 4-0 in the third inning. Peoria scored their only two runs in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 4-2. Miguel Villarroel singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Tre Richardson reached on an error. Villarroel scored on a sac fly by Graysen Tarlow. Bryce Madron singled. Joshua Baez walked. Richardson came home on a sac fly by Brayden Jobert.
The Kernels piled on eight runs in the home fifth to lead 12-2. They added a final run in the seventh.
The Chiefs scored two runs on six hits. Baez was 2-for-3. Villarroel was 2-for-4.
Baez stole his 15th base of the season. Michael Curialle was picked off and caught stealing.
On defense, Tarlow was tagged for catcher interference. Trey Paige and Michael Curialle each made a fielding error. Jobert had an outfield assist at first base.
Peoria is 13-23 on the season.
