The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 3-2 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Peoria catcher Graysen Tarlow, was 2-for-2, including a double, plus a walk, a run scored, and four RBI. Other standouts include Thomas Saggese, Michael McGreevy, JJ Wetherholt, Won-Bin Cho and Jason Savacool.

Memphis Redbirds 8 at Charlotte Knights 4 (Game one, 7 innings)
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds took game one of Saturday’s doubleheader over the Knights in Charlotte.
Michael McGreevy started for Memphis. The right-hander pitched five innings on five hits, one walk, and a season-high nine strikeouts. McGreevy allowed three runs, only one earned, and picked up his fourth Triple-A win of the season.
Matt Svanson fanned four and yielded one run across the final two frames in relief of McGreevy.
The Redbirds pounced early with a two-run first inning. Luken Baker walked and Thomas Saggese singled. César Prieto brought both Redbirds home on his seventh double of the season.

Memphis plated four more in the second inning to extend the lead. With two outs, José Fermín walked and advanced to second base on a Michael Siani single. Siani and Fermín executed a double steal. Baker took his second free pass to load the bases. Saggese drove in Fermín and Siani on his second single in as many innings, with Baker to third base on the play.

Saggese swiped second base, and Prieto walked to extend the frame. Ryan Vilade drove in Baker and Saggese with a single for a 6-0 Redbirds lead.

Memphis widened the lead in the third inning, on Fermín’s second home run of the season.

The Knights scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth to shrink the Redbirds lead. Memphis added an insurance run in the top of the sixth.

The Redbirds held off a late Charlotte rally in the 8-4 victory.
Memphis scored eight runs on nine hits. Saggese was 2-for-3, including two runs scored, a walk, and two RBI. Fermín and Siani both hit their second home runs of the season. Prieto doubled and tallied two RBI. Vilade singled and drove in two. The Redbirds scored all eight of their runs with two outs.
Memphis was active on the basepaths. Fermín stole his 10th base of the season. Siani and Saggese both swiped their second bag. Prieto was caught stealing second base.
On defense, right fielder Vilade committed a fielding error.
Memphis Redbirds 2 at Charlotte Knights 3 (Game two, 7 innings)
The Redbirds lost a close game two of Saturday’s doubleheader with the Knights as the makeup of Thursday’s postponement.
Leonardo Taveras made his first professional start in his 200th career game, as the opener for Memphis. The right-hander tossed two innings and allowed one run on three hits, two walks, and two strikeouts. Taveras took the loss.
Ryan Shreve entered in relief of Taveras and surrendered two runs in two innings. Andre Granillo followed with two scoreless frames and lowered his season ERA to 1.62.
Charlotte took an early 3-0 lead, but Memphis shrunk the deficit to one in the fifth inning. Matt Koperniak walked and scored on Ryan Vilade’s third home run of the year.

Memphis was unable to rally further in the one-run loss.
The Redbirds scored two runs on five hits. Vilade hit a two-run home run for the only extra-base hit of the game for Memphis. The Redbirds did not steal a base or commit an error.
The Redbirds are 21-15 on the season after splitting the doubleheader. Memphis will look to secure the road series split on Sunday.

Springfield Cardinals 3 at Arkansas Travelers 6
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals’ three-game winning streak was ended by the Arkansas Travelers on Saturday at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Tekoah Roby made his sixth start of the season for Springfield. The right-hander pitched three innings and allowed two runs on five hits, one walk, and five strikeouts.
Zane Mills entered in relief of Roby and surrendered three runs over three innings. Luis Gastelum followed and yielded one run across 1 ⅓ innings. Edwin Nuñez recorded the final two outs of the eighth inning.
Springfield plated the first run of the game in the second inning. Noah Mendlinger led off the frame with a single, and moved to second base on a Ramon Mendoza groundout. Brody Moore singled to advance Mendlinger to third base. Carlos Linarez lined a single to score Mendlinger for a 1-0 Springfield lead.
Arkansas took the lead with two runs in the third.
Springfield regained the lead in the fourth inning. Linarez drew a two-out walk and scored the tying run on Miguel Ugeuto’s first triple at the Double-A level.

JJ Wetherholt scored Ugueto on his third single of the game to give the Cardinals a 3-2 lead.

The Travelers scored three runs in the fifth to recapture the lead and added another in the eighth. Springfield failed to respond.
The Cardinals scored three runs on 11 hits. In his fourth three-hit game with Springfield, Wetherholt was 3-for-5, with one RBI. Mendlinger and Moore each tallied two singles. Mendoza recorded a double. Ugueto tripled and drove in a run. Linarez singled, walked, scored a run, and drove in a run.
On the basepaths, Wetherholt was picked off first base and caught stealing.
Defensively, third baseman Mendoza made a throwing error. The Cardinals turned two double plays.
Springfield is 15-17 on the season and will look to clinch the series win on Sunday.

Peoria Chiefs 9, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5
The High-A Peoria Chiefs edged the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Saturday at Dozer Park.
Gerardo Salas started for Peoria. The right-hander threw five innings and allowed one run on three hits, two walks and four strikeouts. From his seventh start, Salas collected his first win at the High-A level.
Jawilme Ramirez followed and tossed a scoreless sixth inning. Dionys Rodriguez followed and surrendered four runs in ⅔ of an inning. Angel Gonzalez threw 1 ⅔ innings of scoreless ball. Benjamin Arias recorded the final two outs to earn his first career High-A save.
The Chiefs’ bats were hot from the start as the home club took a 4-0 lead in first inning.
Jon Jon Gazdar was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a Joshua Baez walk. Ian Petrutz advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Won-Bin Cho plated Gazdar and Baez with a single. Miguel Villarroel reached base via a throwing error, with Cho to third base. Brayden Jobert walked to load the bases. Greyson Tarlow drove in Cho the painful way, with a hit-by-pitch, for the third run of the game. Villarroel crossed home plate on a balk for a 4-0 Chiefs lead.

Wisconsin scored a run in the second inning to narrow the gap to three.
Peoria added two more in the third inning. Villarroel walked, and Jobert followed with a single. Tarlow scored Villarroel and Jobert on his first double of the season to extend the lead to 6-1.
The Chiefs tacked on another run in the fifth. Cho led off with a single and stole second base. Tarlow singled to score Cho for the Chiefs’ seventh run of the game.
The Timber Rattlers shrunk the Chiefs’ lead to two with a four-run seventh inning. Peoria added two insurance runs in the home seventh. Jobert and Tarlow drew back-to-back two-out walks and moved up on a wild pitch. Trey Paige reached base on a fielding error with Jobert and Tarlow scoring to extend the lead to 9-5.
Peoria never trailed in their second consecutive win.
The Chiefs scored nine runs on nine hits. Tarlow was a perfect 2-for-2, including a double, a walk, a run scored, and four RBI. In his first game off the injured list, Cho was 2-for-2, with two runs scored and two RBI. Jobert singled, scored twice, and took two free passes.
On the bases, Gazdar stole his sixth base. Cho swiped his third bag. Petrutz was caught stealing second base.
Defensively, the Chiefs did not commit an error.
Peoria is 11-20 on the season and will look to clinch the series win on Sunday.

Palm Beach Cardinals 3, Jupiter Hammerheads 0
The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals blanked the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Saturday.
Jason Savacool made his sixth start for Palm Beach. The right-hander pitched five scoreless innings on three hits, five strikeouts, and no walks. Savacool earned his third win and lowered his ERA to 1.05 on the season.
Fresh off the injured list, Ernie Day entered in relief of Savacool and struck out two in a scoreless frame. Jack Findlay followed with two shutout innings. Randel Clemente fanned three in the ninth to pick up his second save for Palm Beach.
The Cardinals plated all three runs of the game in the fourth inning. Jonathan Mejia walked and moved to second base via a wild pitch. Jose Suarez doubled in Mejia for the first run of the game, and advanced to third base due to a fielding error. Cade McGee walked and stole second base to put two Cardinals in scoring position. Yordalin Peña lined the second double of the inning to score Suarez and McGee and extend the lead to 3-0.
Palm Beach’s pitching was dominant, as the staff issued just one walk while collecting 12 strikeouts in the shutout victory.
The Cardinals scored three runs on three hits. Pena recorded his eighth double and tallied two RBI. Suarez doubled, scored a run, and recorded one RBI.
On the bases, McGee swiped his eighth bag of the year. Palm Beach did not commit an error on defense.
The Cardinals are 18-14 on the season and will look to take five of six from the Hammerheads on Sunday.

The rookie level Florida Complex League Cardinals are 1-4 on the young season and have both Saturday and Sunday off.
The Cards are tied for last place in the FCL East Division, 3 ½ games behind the Astros and Marlins.
