Cardinals Minor League Notebook – June 5, 2025

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-1 on Wednesday. The Peoria game was postponed. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is Springfield pitcher Tekoah Roby, who threw 6 2/3 innings with one run given up on four hits and with 8 strikeouts. He issued only one walk. Other standouts include Leonardo Bernal, Cade McGee, Anyelo Encarnacion and Brandt Thompson.

Memphis 3, Indianapolis 10

The Triple-A Redbirds were crushed by the Indians in a 10-3 loss at AutoZone Park on Wednesday. Starter Alex Cornell pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up three runs on seven hits, struck out one and walked two. Cornwell took the loss.

Michael Gomez relieved Cornwell and surrendered two runs in 1 1/3 innings. Chris Roycroft yielded five runs in 1/3 of an inning. Zack Weiss threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Leonardo Taveras tossed a scoreless ninth.

Memphis scored two runs in the first inning to lead 2-0. Thomas Saggese drew a walk. Jimmy Crooks walked. Luken Baker grounded into a force out. Crooks was out at second. Matt Koperniak singled, and Saggese scored. César Prieto plated Baker on a single.

Indianapolis put up one run in the second to cut the lead to 2-1. In the fifth, the Indians added two runs to take the lead 3-2.

Indianapolis broke the game open with a seven-run seventh to go up 10-2. The Redbirds tacked on a third run in the eighth to shrink the lead to 10-3.  Michael Siani singled. Saggese singled. Baker drove in Siani on a single.

Memphis scored three runs on eight hits. Saggese was 2-for-4. Siani was 2-for-3.

On the bases, Prieto stole his sixth base of the season. Siani swiped his eighth bag. Saggese stole his fourth base.

On defense, Koperniak had an outfield assist at home plate. Antico had two assists, both at first base. Crooks had a passed ball.

Memphis is 32-25 on the season and is tied for second place with Indianapolis in the International League West, 2.5 games back of Nashville and 9 games back of IL leader Lehigh Valley.

Springfield 3 at Frisco 1

The Double-A Cardinals defeated the RoughRiders in a 3-1 contest on Wednesday. Starter Tekoah Roby pitched 6 2/3 innings, gave up one run on four hits, fanned eight and walked one to earn his fourth win of the season.

Andrew Marrero relieved Roby and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Jack Ralston tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his third save this season.

The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Noah Mendlinger singled. JJ Wetherholt singled. Leonardo Bernal singled to score Mendlinger.

Frisco tied the game in the home half of the first. Springfield regained the lead in the third on a two-run home run by Joshua Baez. Neither team scored for the remainder of the game.

The offense scored three runs on eight hits. Bernal was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Wetherholt was 2-for-4. Baez had two RBI.

On the bases, Darlin Moquete stole his seventh base of the season. Baez was picked off and caught stealing. Jeremy Rivas was picked off third base.

Springfield is 29-24 on the season and is in first place in the Texas League North.

Thursday’s game: at Frisco, Brycen Mautz LHP (0-0, 3.94) vs. Josh Stephan RHP (4-1, 5.25) 7:05 CT.

Peoria at Quad Cities (postponed)                                                                                                 

This game was postponed due to inclement weather. It will be played as part of a doubleheader on Thursday, June 5

Peoria is 19-32 on the season and is in fifth place in the Midwest League West, 13.5 games back of Quad Cities.

Thursday’s game: vs. Quad Cities, Cade Winquest RHP (1-3, 3.97) vs. Josh Hansell RHP (0-0, 1.86) 6:35 CT. (game one); vs. Quad Cities, Gerardo Salas RHP (2-4, 7.84) vs. Drew Beam RHP (4-4, 3.04) (game two).

Palm Beach 8 at Fort Myers 1

The Low-A Cardinals beat the Mighty Mussels by the score of 8-1 on Wednesday. Starter Brandt Thompson pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up one run on two hits, fanned seven and walked three to earn his second win.

Christian Worley relieved Thompson and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Ernie Day hurled a scoreless eighth. Angel Cuenca tossed a scoreless ninth.

The Beach Birds went up 5-0 in the second inning. Sammy Hernandez walked. Anyelo Encarnacion singled. Heriberto Caraballo singled. Romtres Cabrera walked and Hernandez scored. Bryce Madron plated Encarnacion on a single. Luis Pino pinch ran for Madron.  Caraballo came home on a wild pitch. Cade McGee doubled to drive in Cabrera and Pino.

Palm Beach added three runs in the third to lead 8-0. Jose Suarez singled. Yordalin Pena singled. Hernandez was hit by a pitch. Encarnacion singled to score Suarez. Caraballo plated Pena on a single. Hernandez scored on a walk by Cabrera.

Fort Myers finally scored their first and only run in the sixth to shrink the lead to 8-1.

The Cardinals scored eight runs on 12 hits. McGee was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Encarnacion was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Caraballo was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Suarez was 2-for-5. Cabrera had two RBI. Hernandez scored two runs.

Palm Beach is 24-28 on the season and is in third place in the FSL East, 4.5 games back of St. Lucie.

Thursday’s game: at Fort Myers, TBD (PB) vs. Jason Doktorcyzk RHP (2-2, 5.35) 6:05 CT.

The Cardinals are 10-9 on the season and are in third place in the Florida Complex League East, 2 games back of the FCL Astros.

The DSL Cardinals are 0-2 on the season.
