Cardinals Minor League Notebook – June 4, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-2 on Wednesday. The FCL Cardinals game was postponed. The Cardinal Nation’s Players of the Day, the Memphis Redbirds offense, collectively scored 18 runs and walked 14 times. The bats were led by Bligh Madris (3-4, 3 walks, 3 RBI), Joshua Báez (3 hits, 3 RBI, HR) and Lars Nootbaar (4 RBI, HR). Other standouts include Mason Molina, José Suárez, Tre Richardson, Cade McGee, Won-Bin Cho, Miguel Villarroel, and Dakota Harris.

Memphis 18, Louisville 4

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds pulverized the Louisville Bats in an 18-4 rout at AutoZone Park on Wednesday.

Starter Pete Hansen pitched four innings, gave up two runs on five hits, walked three and struck out two.

Jared Shuster relieved Hansen and surrendered one unearned run in 1 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win. Matt Svanson threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Cade Winquest yielded one run in the eighth. Luis Gastelum tossed a scoreless ninth.

Memphis went up 3-0 in the first inning. Lars Nootbaar hit a lead-off home run.

Joshua Báez doubled. Bligh Madris hit a two-run home run.

Louisville put up two runs in the top of the third to cut the lead to 3-2. The Redbirds answered with a run in the home half of the third on a solo home run by Blaze Jordan to lead 4-2.

Memphis made it 5-2 in the fifth on a solo home run by Báez.

The Bats shrunk the lead to 5-3 in the sixth. In the seventh, the Redbirds ran up the score to 12-3 with a seven-run inning.

Báez singled. Bligh Madris walked. Yohel Pozo singled home Báez for a 6-3 Memphis lead.

Matt Koperniak walked to load the bases. Ramon Mendoza walked to force Madris home. Pozo came home on a bases-loaded walk by Noah Mendlinger. Brody Moore walked to plate Koperniak. Nootbaar singled to score Mendoza and Mendlinger and put the Redbirds in double digits at 11-3..

Moore came home on a sac fly by Baez.

Louisville scored their fourth run in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the inning, the Redbirds extended the lead to 18-4 with a six-run frame.

Madris doubled. Mendoza  and Mendlinger walked to load the bases. Moore walked to force Madris home. Nootbaar walked to score Mendoza. Mendlinger came home on a walk by Báez. Blaze Jordan walked to send Moore home, the fourth bases-loaded walk of the frame. Madris doubled to plate Nootbaar and Báez.

The offense scored 18 runs on 13 hits. They drew 14 walks. Madris was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run, four RBI, and three runs scored. Báez was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, three walks, three RBI, and four runs scored. Nootbaar was 2-for-5 with a home run, a walk,  four RBI, and two runs scored. Pozo was 2-for-6 with an RBI. Jordan and Moore both had two RBI and Moore scored two runs. Jordan logged a home run. Mendoza and Mendlinger scored two runs.

On defense, third baseman Mendoza made two fielding errors.

Memphis is 36-23 on the season and is tied for second place in the International League.

Springfield 7 at Frisco 8

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals were walked-off by the Frisco RoughRiders in an 8-7 loss on Wednesday.

Starter Mason Molina pitched six innings, gave up two runs on five hits, and fanned five in a quality start.

Edwin Nuñez relieved Molina and blew the save by surrendering four runs in 1/3 innings of relief. Randel Clemente threw 2/3 scoreless innings to clean up after Nuñez. Michael Watson yielded one unearned run in the eighth. D.J. Carpenter gave up the walk-off run in the ninth and took the loss.

The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Zach Levenson doubled and scored on a double by Miguel Villarroel.

Springfield added a run in the fourth on a solo home run by Villarroel, his first at Double-A, to increase the lead to 3-0.

Frisco scored two runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Cardinals extended the lead to 5-2 in the top of the seventh. Jon Jon Gazdar singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Rainiel Rodriguez and Ryan Campos walked. Levenson plated Gazdar and Rodriguez on a single.

The RoughRiders took the lead in the home half of the seventh with a four-run frame to go up 6-5. Springfield came back to score two runs in the top of the eighth to lead 7-6.

Travis Honeyman singled but was eliminated in a force out by Villarroel. Villarroel stole second and advanced to third on an error. Harris doubled to score Villarroel. Harris stole third and scored on a sac fly by Chase Adkison.

Frisco tied the game in the bottom of the eighth and won in a walk off in the ninth.

The Cardinals scored seven runs on 11 hits. Villarroel was 2-for-5 with a double,a home run, two RBI, and three runs scored. Harris was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple,  and two RBI. Levenson was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Honeyman was 2-for-5.

On the bases, Rodriguez stole his second base for Springfield. Villarroel swiped his first bag in Double-A. Harris stole his 12th base. Honeyman stole his 20th base. Campos was caught stealing third base.

On defense, Campos was charged with catcher’s interference.

Springfield is 24-28 on the season. They are in third place in the Texas League North.

Thursday’s game: at Frisco, Liam Doyle LHP (0-3, 5.82) vs. Winston Santos RHP (0-2, 8.26) 7:05 CT.

Peoria 11, Beloit 4

The High-A Peoria Chiefs tied their franchise record with seven home runs in the game as they pounded the Beloit Sky Carp in an 11-4 win on Wednesday.

Starter Ty Van Dyke pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up four runs on three hits, walked four, and fanned seven.

Jawilme Ramírez relieved Van Dyke and threw 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Nate Dohm tossed the final four scoreless innings in his first relief outing of the season to earn his first win in the Cardinals organization.

Beloit went up 3-0 in the top of the first inning. Peoria answered with two runs in the home half of the first to cut the lead to 3-2. Jalin Flores walked. José Suárez followed with a two run home run.

The Chiefs took the lead 4-3 in the third. Jack Gurevitch was hit by a pitch. Suárez hit a two run home run, his second of the game.

The Sky Carp tied the game in the top of the fourth. Peoria answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run by Tre Richardson III to retake the lead at 5-4.

The Chiefs added a run in the sixth on a second solo shot by Richardson to extend the lead to 6-4.

They made it 7-4 in the seventh on a solo home run by Won-Bin Cho.

In the eighth, Peoria tacked on four more runs to win 11-4. Josh Kross hit a solo home run.

Flores doubled. Cho walked. Cade McGee followed with a three-run home run.

The offense scored 11 runs on 13 hits. Suárez was 2-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI and two runs scored. McGee was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Cho was 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored. Richardson was 2-for-4 with two home runs, two RBI and two runs scored.

On the bases, Gurevitch stole two bags for four steals with Peoria. Cho swiped his 19th bag. McGee stole his sixth base.

The Chiefs did not commit an error.

Peoria is 26-27 on the season. They are tied for third place in the Midwest League West.

Thursday’s game:  vs. Beloit, Tanner Franklin RHP (1-1, 3.93) vs. TBD (BEL) 6:35 CT.

Palm Beach 5 at Tampa 14

The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals were walloped by the Tampa Tarpons in a 14-5 loss on Wednesday.

Starter Jake Shelagowski pitched three innings, gave up four runs on six hits, walked two and fanned four. Shelagowski took the loss.

Hunter Kublick relieved Shelagowski and surrendered three runs in 2/3 innings of relief. Antoni Cuello yielded one run in 1 2/3 innings. Justin Militello relinquished five runs in 1 1/3 innings. Anthony Watts gave up one run in the final 1 1/3 innings.

Tampa went up 3-0 in the first inning. Palm Beach scored one run in the top of the second to cut the lead to 3-1.

Brayden Smith hit a ground-rule double and stole third base. Smith scored on a ground out by Jonathan Mejía.

The Tarpons answered with a run in the home half of the second to increase the lead to 4-1. The Cardinals added a run in the third to shrink the lead to 4-2. Ryan Weingartner singled and scored on a double by Michael Dattalo.

Tampa extended the lead to 7-2 in the fourth. Palm Beach made it 7-4 in the fifth. Ryan Mitchell walked and Weingartner followed with a two-run home run.

In the top of the sixth, the Beach Birds scored a run to close the gap to 7-5. Smith singled and stole second base. Smith stole third base and scored on a ground out by Mejía.

The Tarpons added a run to lead 8-5 in the bottom of the sixth. They put up a six run seventh to balloon the score to 14-5.

The Cardinals scored five runs on six hits. Weingartner was 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored. Smith was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Mejía had two RBI.

On the basepaths, Smith stole three bags to increase his steal total to 14. Mitchell swiped his 13th bag. Weingartner was caught stealing second base. Chase Heath was picked off first base.

The Cardinals are 29-24 on the season. They are in second place in the Florida State League East.

Thursday’s game: at Tampa, TBD (PB) vs. Wyatt Parliament RHP (0-0, 6.75) 4:00 CT.

FCL Cardinals at FCL Marlins (postponed)

The Cardinals are 6-15 on the season. They are in last place in the FCL East.
