FCL Cardinals 3 at FCL Marlins 4
The fourth-place Florida Complex League Cardinals (10-13) never led, falling to the first-place FCL Marlins (13-6), 4-3.

The Marlins struck first with a fifth-inning tally against starter Yadiel Batista in his final inning of work.   The southpaw fanned five, yielding three hits and two walks.

Yadiel Batista

Held to just one hit over five frames against Marlins’ lefty Luis Cesar, the visitor’s offense tied it up at 1-1 against the Miami bullpen in the sixth.  Second baseman Jonathan Mejia got on board with a one-out double to left.  Center fielder Yordalin Pena’s ground out advanced Mejia to third, before three consecutive free passes, to right fielder Jose Suarez, shortstop Anyelo Encarnacion and catcher Heriberto Caraballo, brought a run across home plate.

The tie was short-lived, however, as reliver Charles Harrison (L, 0-2) was tagged for three runs on three hits and two walks against three outs recorded.  Yordy Herrera and Omar Yanez retired three batters each. Herrera was touched for an unearned score on two hits and two wild pitches while Yanez worked around three bases-on-balls.

Jonathan Mejia

Mejia provided most of his team’s offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and home run, scoring twice and driving in two.  His seventh-inning blast occurred with designated hitter Travis Honeyman (walk) aboard and was one of just three team hits along with six walks.  The last hit belonged to Suarez who singled once in three at bats with a walk.
