The St. Louis Cardinals system was 4-4 on Saturday. Our Player of the Day is Memphis starter Dakota Hudson, who pitched eight one-run innings, striking out seven and walking one, for his 10th victory of the season. In a loss, Springfield catcher Andrew Knizner went 4-for-4.

The Redbirds edged New Orleans at AutoZone Park on Saturday. Memphis got on the board first with one run each in the fourth and fifth innings. Rangel Ravelo hit a leadoff solo home run in the fourth and in the next frame, he plated a run on a single. The left fielder went 3-for-4. Oscar Mercado was 2-for-4.
Our Player of the Day, starter Dakota Hudson, won his 10th game of the season. Hudson pitched eight-plus innings, giving up one run on seven hits while striking out seven and walking one. Edward Mujica allowed an inherited runner to score in the ninth and picked up his seventh save.
Mercado was caught stealing for the seventh time in 25 attempts.
The Redbirds are 45-30 on the season and are in first place in the PCL American Southern Division.

The Cardinals lost to the Travelers at Hammons Field on Saturday. Starter Anthony Shew pitched five innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on six hits. The right hander struck out three and walked one. Ramon Santos tossed three innings in relief, surrendering two runs on four hits. Colton Thomson pitched the ninth and allowed the deciding two runs on three hits. Thomson took the loss.
The Cardinals scored four runs rather quickly, two in the first and two in the second. It began with a Lane Thomas RBI groundout. Andrew Knizner singled to drive in the second run of the first inning. In the second inning, Stefan Trosclair hit a two run home to left field. Springfield plated one more run in the eighth on Granden Goetzman’s RBI single. Goetzman went 2-for-4, Knizner was 4-for-4, Thomas was 2-for-5, and Tommy Edman was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Goetzman stole his third base in four attempts. Thomas was caught stealing for the sixth time in 18 attempts. Luke Dykstra committed a fielding error.
The Cardinals went 33-37 in the first half, are 1-4 in the second half, and are in last place in the Texas League North.

Palm Beach 1, Charlotte 4 (10 innings)

The Cardinals lost to the Stone Crabs at home in extra innings on Saturday. The offense scored its only run in the second inning when Johan Mieses hit a leadoff triple then scored on Brian O’Keefe’s single. Danny Hudzina went 2-for-4, both doubles, as the Cards managed eight hits in total.
Starter Ian Oxnevad pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up one run on six hits while fanning four and walking none. Will Latcham followed with 3 2/3 scoreless innings. Eric Carter allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits in the 10th and took the loss. Thomas St. Clair got the final out of the 10th.
Dylan Carlson stole his fourth base in six attempts.
The Cardinals are 39-25 in the first half, 1-2 in the second half, and are tied for second place in the FSL South.

The Chiefs blanked the Bees at Dozer Park on Saturday. Starter Alex Fagalde pitched six scoreless innings, allowing five hits, striking out five and walking one. Patrick Dayton followed with two scoreless innings. Bryan Dobzanski pitched a scoreless ninth. Fagalde earned his second win of the season.
The Chiefs got on the board with two runs in the fourth, followed by one in the fifth and two in the seventh. Elehuris Montero doubled in a run and Julio Rodriguez added an RBI single in the fourth. In the fifth, Scott Hurst’s sac fly followed Bryce Denton’s leadoff double and Jose Martinez’ single. Hurst drew a bases loaded walk in the seventh and the final run came home on a ground out force out by Irving Lopez. Hurst went 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBI. Denton scored twice.
Nick Plummer stole his sixth base in nine attempts. Denton swiped his third bag in three tries. Hurst was picked off, and caught stealing for the fourth time in 10 attempts. Martinez was picked off second base. Martinez also committed a fielding error.
The Chiefs are 39-31 in the first half, 3-0 in the second half, and are tied for first place in the Midwest League Western Division.

State College 5 at West Virginia 9

The Spikes fell to the Black Bears of West Virginia on the road on Saturday. The Spikes got on the board first with a run in the second on a ground out RBI by Andres Luna. Four more runs came home in the fourth to put the Spikes up 5-0. Nick Dunn plated two on a double. Wadye Ynfante drove in two more on a single. However, the Black Bears responded with seven runs over the next two innings to take the lead. Dunn went 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBI.
Starter Jim Voyles pitched four innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits. The right hander struck out eight and walked none. Will Changarotty followed with 2/3 innings, surrendering four runs and taking the loss. Michael Baird pitched the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing two insurance runs.
Edwin Figuera stole his second base in two attempts. Ynfante swiped his second bag in three tries. Stanley Espinal made a fielding error. Walker Robbins had an outfield assist, throwing a runner out at home.
The Spikes are 3-6 on the season and are in fifth place in the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division.

The Cardinals were pummeled by the Kingsport Mets on Saturday at home. Starter Javier Villalobos suffered his first loss of the season, pitching three innings and giving up three runs, two earned, on six hits. The left hander struck out four and walked none. Colin Schmid followed with a very rough 2/3 of an inning in which he surrendered seven runs on four hits. David Oca tossed 2 2/3 scoreless frames. Parker Kelly allowed two runs, one earned, in his 2 1/3 innings pitched. Saniel Rosendo got the final out.
The Cardinals’ runs came in the fifth on a two-run home run by Dariel Gomez. Luis Flores went 2-for-5. Carlos Soto and Donivan Williams both went 2-for-4.
The defense was shaky, with five errors. Villalobos and Soto made throwing errors. Leandro Cedeno, Moises Castillo, and Brian Sanchez each committed a fielding miscue. Sanchez had an outfield assist.
The Cardinals are 1-4 on the season and in last place in the Appalachian League West.

In the first week of league play, the Gulf Coast League Cardinals are 4-0, with a 1.5-game lead over both the Mets and Marlins.

DSL Cardinals Blue 3 at DSL Angels 2 (six innings)
The Cardinals Blue edged the Angels in a rain-shortened game on Saturday. The Blue runs scored in the third inning on a three-run home run by Pablo Gomez. That was the only extra base hit for the Cardinals Blue.
Starter Inohan Paniagua pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, striking out three and walking two. Larimel Soriano tossed three innings of relief, surrendering two runs on three hits. Soriano was the winning pitcher. Leonardo Taveras was on the mound when the rain stopped the game. He allowed one hit and walked one.
Freddy De Jesus was caught stealing for the second time in two attempts. In the field, Taveras made a throwing error.
The Cardinals Blue are 13-6 on the season and are tied for first place in the DSL South.

DSL Cardinals Red 4, DSL Mets2 1 (five innings)
In another rain-shortened contest, the Red team defeated the Mets2 on Saturday. Starter Ronald Suarez pitched four innings, giving up one run on three hits. Suarez struck out six and walked two. Sebastian Tabata threw a scoreless fifth and was the winning pitcher.
The offense got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first. Joerlin De Los Santos led off with a double and Sander Mora followed with a single to score De Los Santos. Three walks later, Mora scored. In the fourth, Cristhian Longa led off with a solo home run. Adanson Cruz’ single in the fifth drove the final Red team run home. Mora went 2-for-3 and Cruz was 2-for-2.
Franklin Soto stole his eighth base in 14 attempts. Mora was caught stealing for the first time in two tries.
The Cardinals Red are 9-10 on the season and are in fourth place in the DSL San Pedro Division.
