The St. Louis Cardinals system was 3-2 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day Connor Lunn pitched 6 2/3 one run innings with nine strikeouts in Springfield’s win. Other standouts include Trent Baker, Jose Fermin and Raul Guzman.

The Memphis Redbirds were blanked by the Cubs by the score of 8-0 in Des Moines on Wednesday. Starter Tommy Parsons pitched six innings, gave up six runs on six hits including four long balls, struck out four and walked one. Parsons took the loss, his third.
Grant Black relieved and surrendered two runs in the final two innings.
The Cubs scored in five consecutive frames with single runs in the third and fourth, and two runs in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.
The Memphis offense scattered just three hits. Nick Raposo was 2-for-3, both singles. Masyn Winn had the other hit, also a single. The offense was 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.
On the base paths, Winn stole his 14th base of the season. In the field, Black made an error on a pickoff.
Memphis is 38-33 on the season and is in fifth place in the International League West, 8.5 games back of St. Paul.
Thursday’s game: at Iowa, LHP Zack Thompson (1-2, 8.64) vs. Riley Thompson RHP (2-4, 5.87) 6:38 CT.
The Cardinals defeated the Rough Riders in a Tuesday night road contest. Starter Connor Lunn pitched 6 2/3 innings, gave up one run on five hits and struck out nine. Lunn earned his third win of the season.
Ryan Shreve threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Bryan Pope surrendered one run in the ninth.
Springfield scored all six of their runs in the third inning. It started with a double by Nick Dunn. Pedro Pages followed with a single. Chandler Redmond doubled to score Dunn. Noah Mendlinger plated Pages and Redmond on a double. Arquimedes Gamboa walked. Irving Lopez singled and Mendlinger came in. Jose Alvarez reached on a fielder’s choice and Gamboa was thrown out at home. Nick Dunn doubled to score Lopez and Alvarez.
Frisco scored the first of their two runs in the fourth. The final run came home in the ninth.
Dunn doubled twice with two RBI. Mendlinger singled, doubled, walked and drove in two. Redmond was 3-for-5 including a double and an RBI.
On the base paths, Alvarez stole his fourth base of the season. Pages swiped his first bag.
Redmond made a fielding error.
Springfield is 33-32 on the season and is in third place in the Texas League North, eight games back of Arkansas.
Thursday’s game: at Frisco, Logan Gragg RHP (1-4, 6.29) vs. Ryan Garcia RHP (2-5, 7.04) 7:05 CT.
The Peoria Chiefs suffered a three-run loss to the River Bandits in Davenport on Wednesday. Starter Trent Baker pitched six scoreless innings, allowed four hits and struck out three.
Matt Hickey relieved and surrendered four runs in the seventh. Hickey took the loss, his third. Alfredo Ruiz tossed a scoreless eighth.
Peoria scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Osvaldo Tovalin walked and came home on a double by Thomas Francisco.
The 1-0 lead held until the seventh inning, when Quad Cities tied the score in the bottom of that inning. The River Bandits added three runs in the eighth to take the 4-1 lead.
The Chiefs offense scored one run on six hits. Nathan Church was 2-for-4 as the only Chief with multiple hits. Francisco’s RBI double was the only extra base hit.
On the base paths, Aaron McKeithan stole his second base of the season. In the field, Hickey made a throwing error. Baker picked a runner off second base.
Peoria is 32-33 on the season and is tied with Quad Cities for second place in the Midwest League West, seven games back of Cedar Rapids.
Thursday’s game: at Quad Cities, Tink Hence RHP (1-1, 2.57) vs. Cruz Noriega RHP (1-1, 2.82) 6:30 CT.
The Palm Beach Cardinals edged the Tortugas in a 5-4 contest in Daytona on Wednesday. Starter Pete Hansen pitched six innings, gave up four runs on five hits, struck out seven and walked two to earn his sixth win of the season.
Tanner Jacobson threw three scoreless innings of relief to earn his second save.
The Beach Birds took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Memphis rehabber Jose Fermin reached on an error. Chris Rotondo drew a walk. Carlos Linarez singled and Fermin scored. Adanson Cruz plated Rotondo and Linarez on a single.
Lizandro Espinoza’s solo home run in the second increased the Palm Beach lead to 4-0. Daytona answered in the bottom of the second, cutting the lead to 4-3.
In the third, the Cardinals increased the lead to 5-3 when Fermin doubled and scored on a single by Won-Bin Cho.
The Tortugas plated their final run of the game in the fifth.
Fermin was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Cho was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Espinoza was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Cruz was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Palm Beach is 37-28 on the season and is in first place in the FSL East.

The Florida Complex League Cardinals defeated the Astros in a 9-6 home win on Wednesday. Starter Gerado Salas pitched four innings, gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits, struck out four and walked three.
Omar Yanez threw two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. John Lynch surrendered two runs in the seventh. Ettore Guilianelli hurled a scoreless eighth. Bruno Lopez tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his first save.
The Cardinals struck first with one run in the first inning. Jonathan Mejia walked and later scored on a single by Yaisel Ramos.
The Astros went up 2-1 in the second inning, then added two more in the third for a 4-1 lead.
In the bottom of the third the Cardinals put up seven runs to retake lead at 8-4. Todd Lott and Mejia walked. Luis Rodriguez singled. Lott scored on a sac fly by Ramos. Anyelo Encarnacion walked. Yancel Guerrero plated Mejia and Rodriguez on a double. Jeremy Ramos reached on an error and Encarnacion scored. Guerrero came home on a double by Raul Guzman. A double by Jose Suarez plated Ramos and Guzman.
The Cardinals added a final run on a solo home run by Guzman in the fifth. The Astros finished with two runs in the seventh.
Guzman was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Suarez, Ramos, and Guerrero each had two RBI.
On the base paths, Mejia stole his second base of the season. In the field, Guzman made a fielding error.
The Cardinals are 5-6 for the season.
