The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 0-1 on Monday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, DSL Cardinals’ Emanuel Luna, went 2-for-4 with two walks, a double, and an RBI in his first professional game. Other standouts include Sebastian Rojas, Michael Cordero, and Yeferson Portolatin. We also preview the week’s upcoming series.

Memphis Redbirds (off-day)
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds were off on Monday as they headed home to AutoZone Park for a six-game set with the Louisville Bats, starting Tuesday.
The Redbirds enter the week following a 5-1 series win over the Omaha Storm Chasers on the road.
Blaze Jordan continues to have a strong season with the Redbirds. The 23-year-old holds the highest batting average of players currently on the roster at .328. Jordan is third on the Redbirds in home runs (9) and RBI (30). Jordan recorded his first five-hit game in the week as well.
Outfielder Joshua Báez continues to showcase the power in his bat. The 22-year-old leads the team in home runs (16 and RBI (39) while also having tallied the most steals (11).
On the mound, left-hander Bruce Zimmerman has thrown the most innings at 56 ⅓ and earned the most wins in the rotation with four through 11 starts. Zimmerman has also recorded the most strikeouts on the staff at 67. Right-hander Max Rajcic has been a dominant bullpen arm. Rajcic holds a 1.82 ERA through 21 appearances (one start) and 34 ⅔ innings. The 24-year-old has struck out 39 hitters.
Memphis is 35-22 on the season. They are tied with Nashville for first place in the International League West Division.
Tuesday’s game: vs. Louisville (CIN). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CT.
Springfield Cardinals (off-day)
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals were off on Monday, as they traveled to Riders Field in Frisco, Texas, for a six-game set with the Frisco RoughRiders, starting Tuesday.
The Cardinals will look to continue their five-game winning streak and a series sweep of the Wichita Wind Surge at home.
Ryan Campos has swung a hot bat in recent games and is tied for second on the Cardinals in home runs (5) and holds the team lead in RBI (28). Campos’s eight doubles is second-best on the squad.
Noah Mendlinger has shown tremendous plate discipline, drawing 32 walks compared to 18 strikeouts. His .277 batting average is tops on the team and earned him a promotion to Memphis.
On the mound, Jurrangelo Cijntje holds the most wins among starters with three through 10 starts. The switch-pitcher’s 59 strikeouts is the most on the staff.
Mason Burns has been a reliable bullpen arm, leading the team with five saves. Burns holds a 2.08 ERA through 16 appearances, 21 ⅔ innings, and 24 strikeouts.
Springfield is 23-27 on the season after winning all five games against Wichita. They reside in third place in the Texas League North Division.
Tuesday’s game: at Frisco (TEX). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 12:05 PM CT.
Peoria Chiefs (off-day)
The High-A Peoria Chiefs were off on Monday, as they headed home to Dozer Park for a six-game set with the Beloit Sky Carp, starting Tuesday.
Peoria will look to continue their winning ways after a second consecutive 4-2 series win on the season, their most recent being on the road against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
Won-Bin Cho has also put together a strong offensive year, as he ranks second on the team in home runs (seven) and RBI (35). Cho’s recent stretch of strong play earned him Midwest League Player of the Week honors.
Jesús Báez has swung a powerful bat thus far as he leads the Chiefs with 10 home runs and is tied for third on the team in RBI (27). Jalin Flores leads the Chiefs with 36 RBI. Josh Kross has extended his team lead in hits with 47. Kross has also hit six home runs and driven in 20 runs.
On the mound, Blake Aita has turned in 10 solid starts. The right-hander holds a 3.70 ERA across 37 ⅓ innings and 46 strikeouts, the third-most strikeouts on the staff.
Yhoiker Fajardo holds a solid 3.38 ERA across 37 ⅓ innings in nine games (seven starts), and leads the pitching staff with 54 strikeouts while issuing just eight walks.
Peoria is 24-27 on the season. The Chiefs reside in fifth place in the Midwest League West Division.

Palm Beach Cardinals (off-day)
The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals were off on Monday, as they traveled to George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida, for a six-game series with the Tampa Tarpons, starting Tuesday
The Cardinals will look to continue their momentum following a 5-1 series win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers.
The switch-hitting infielder Jonathan Mejía leads Palm Beach with eight home runs and 31 RBI.
Yordalin Peña has collected the most hits on the team with 40 and has hit four home runs. Chase Heath has tallied the second-most hits on the team with 34. In his first 15 games, Michael Dattalo has hit an impressive .448 with 26 hits, along with more walks than strikeouts (7-to-6).
On the mound, left-hander Cade Crossland has thrown a team-high 41 ⅓ innings across 10 starts, striking out 58 in that time. Crossland has also won two contests. Nelfy Ynfante has been dependable out of the bullpen with a sturdy 2.25 ERA over 10 relief appearances, 20 innings, and 24 strikeouts.
Palm Beach is 29-22 on the season. They hold a one-game lead over Jupiter in the Florida State League East Division.
Tuesday’s game: at Tampa (NYY). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 PM CT.
FCL Cardinals (off-day)
The Florida Complex League Cardinals were off on Monday, as they prepare for a road contest with the FCL Marlins on Tuesday.
The Cardinals enter the week following a doubleheader split with the FCL Nationals in which the Cardinals won game two.
The FCL Cardinals are 6-14 on the season.
Tuesday’s game: at FCL Marlins. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM CT.
DSL Cardinals 7 at DSL Mets Orange 15
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals fell to the DSL Mets Orange in the DSL’s Opening Day.
Daniel Gómez started for the Cardinals. The right-hander pitched 2 ⅔ innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits, two walks, and one strikeout.
Juan Santillán made his professional debut and recorded the final out of the third inning in relief of Gómez. Rafeli Moronta made his pro debut and surrendered six runs, five earned, over 1 ⅓ innings, taking a blown save and the loss. Beiker Rodriguez followed and yielded three runs, one earned, across 2 ⅔ frames. Andey Garrido gave up five runs and recorded just two outs in his first career game. Brayan Amoroso secured the final out of the eighth in his professional debut.
The Cardinals struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning. In his first career at-bat, Emanuel Luna singled. Sebastian Rojas followed with a double to bring Luna home and put the Cardinals in front 1-0. Luis Estrella singled in his first career at-bat to move Rojas to third base. Michael Cordero lined a fourth consecutive hit, a single, to score Rojas for a 2-0 lead.
The Mets Orange trimmed the lead in half with a run in the home first. The Cardinals moved ahead by two once more in the fourth.
Yeferson Portolatin walked and stole second base. Portolatin took third base on a failed pickoff attempt and scored on a fielding error, allowing Rojas to reach base for a 3-1 Cardinals lead.
The Mets Orange responded with a run in the home fourth and five runs in the fifth to jump in front 7-3. The Cardinals moved within two with a pair of runs in the sixth.
Portolatin singled and scored on Luna’s first extra-base hit, a double to bring the Cardinals within three at 7-4.
Rojas walked and Estrella was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Cordero flew into a sacrifice double play, with Rojas out at third base and Luna home for a 7-5 contest.
The Mets Orange took both runs back in the home sixth for a 9-5 lead. The Cardinals scored twice in the seventh.
Jesús Pérez walked and Héctor Cabrera was hit by a pitch. Portolatin walked to load the bags with one away. Pérez scored on a wild pitch to move the Cardinals within three at 9-6, with Portolatin and Cabrera to second base and third base, respectively, on the play. Luna walked to reload the bases. Rojas brought Cabrera home via a sacrifice fly for a two-run contest again at 9-7.
The Mets Orange scored a run in the seventh and five runs in the eighth to pull away at 13-7. The Cardinals were unable to answer.
The DSL Cardinals scored seven runs on eight hits. In his first career game, Luna went 2-for-4, including two walks, two runs scored, a double, and an RBI. Rojas walked, doubled, scored a run, and notched two RBI. Cordero singled and drove in two runs. Portolatin drew three walks, singled, and scored two runs. The lineup left 15 runners on base.
On the bases, Portolatin stole two bags to increase his career stolen base total to 25.
On defense, shortstop Portolain and pitcher Gómez each made a throwing error. Third baseman Cordero committed a fielding error. Gómez and Garrido each picked a runner off first base from the mound. Catcher Rojas was charged with a passed ball.
The DSL Cardinals are 0-1 on the season. They will play a road contest with DSL Colorado on Tuesday.
