The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-2 on Thursday after Palm Beach was postponed and Springfield lost twice. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Noah Mendlinger, went 4-for-5 with a double and a homer. Other standouts include Luken Baker, Juniel Querecuto and Alex Cornwell.

The Memphis Redbirds (29-25) topped the Omaha Storm Chasers (KC, 22-30) on Thursday night at Werner Park.
Dakota Hudson tossed five innings and gave up two runs on three hits and a walk. The right-hander struck out seven and earned his second win of the year. Kyle Leahy was touched for a run in one inning.
In the second, Luken Baker blasted a solo shot, his 17th of the year.

The Redbirds scored an impressive eight runs in the sixth inning. Moisés Gómez gave Memphis the lead with a two-run home run, his 14th of the season. Errol Robinson walked with the bases loaded and Masyn Winn singled to plate one. Matt Koperniak and Ivan Herrera both drove in two runs with singles to make the score 9-2.

Ryan Loutos surrendered three runs in two innings on three hits and two walks. JoJo Romero tossed a scoreless ninth inning.
Memphis scored three more runs between the seventh and eighth innings. Koperniak drove in a run in the seventh, his third of the game. In the eighth, Juniel Querecuto blasted a two-run shot, his ninth of 2023.

The lineup recorded 11 hits and 11 walks in the contest. Baker went 1-for-2 with a home run, three walks and two runs. Taylor Motter walked three times and came across twice. Koperniak drove in three and Querecuto went 2-for-4 with one walk, a homer, two RBI and two runs.
Koperniak, Motter and Kramer Robertson each stole a base.

Springfield 8 at Amarillo 13 (Continuation of 5/31 contest, Game 1)
In the continuation of Wednesday’s game, the Springfield Cardinals (21-26) fell to the Amarillo Sod Poodles (ARI, 21-26) at Hodgetown.
Starter Brandon Komar tossed four innings and was charged with four runs on nine hits, four walks and four strikeouts. Ryan Shreve surrendered two runs in two innings on three hits, a walk and three strikeouts.
After the Sod Poodles scored three runs in the first inning, Jose Alvarez answered back with two RBI in the second. Chase Pinder blasted his first homer of the season in the third.
In the fifth, Pedro Pagés and Noah Mendlinger went back-to-back to take the lead 7-4.
Logan Sawyer yielded six runs in only 2/3 of an inning. The 30-year-old took his second loss of the year and blew his third save. Edgar Escobar was touched for a solo homer in 1 1/3 innings.
With a 13-7 deficit after the seventh, the Cardinals could only scrape across one more run. L.J. Jones grounded out in the eighth to bring home a run.
Mendlinger continued on his Double-A tear and went 4-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored. Pinder and Jacob Buchberger had the only other multi-hit games with two. Arquímedes Gamboa hit his second triple of the season. The lineup went 4-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left nine on base.
Mike Antico took his 14th bag of 2023.
Springfield 2 at Amarillo 3 (7 innings, Game 2)
The Springfield Cardinals (21-27) were walked off by the Amarillo Sod Poodles (ARI, 22-26) in seven innings on Thursday night.
Wilfredo Pereira pitched 6 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on seven hits and no walks. The right-hander fanned seven. Andre Granillo recorded a scoreless 1/3 of an inning.
The Sod Poodles went ahead in the second inning but the Cardinals answered back in the fifth. Buchberger singled and Gamboa doubled. Antico singled them both home to make the score 2-1. Amarillo won with a walk-off single in the seventh.
Irving Lopez had the only multi-hit game with two. Gamboa walked twice and went 1-for-1 with a run. The lineup went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
Friday’s game: at Amarillo, RHP Connor Lunn (1-3, 6.11) vs. RHP Chad Patrick (2-5, 5.06) 7:05 CT
The Peoria Chiefs (22-26) edged the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (MIL, 16-31) at Fox Cities Stadium on Thursday.
Alex Cornwell had a solid start after he pitched 5 2/3 innings and yielded two runs, one earned, on eight hits and a walk. TCN’s no. 49 prospect fanned seven.
The Chiefs struck in the second inning after Jimmy Crooks singled to score Osvaldo Tovalin (triple). Thomas Francisco tripled to plate Crooks. The Timber Rattlers answered with a run in the bottom half.

Out of the bullpen, Bryan Pope recorded 3 1/3 scoreless frames with four punchouts. The 24-year-old earned his second win and has a 1.95 ERA in 32 1/3 innings this season.
Wisconsin tied the game in the sixth inning. In the eighth, Victor Scott II walked, advanced on a bunt and stole third. Nathan Church grounded out to give Peoria a 3-2 lead.
Scott went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run. No one had a multi-hit game. The lineup went 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position but still found a way to win.
On the base paths, Scott took three bags and Jeremy Rivas stole one. Scott now has 35 stolen bases this year and is tied for the most in professional baseball.
Rivas and Tovalin both committed errors. Darlin Moquete threw a runner out at second base from right field.
Friday’s game: at Wisconsin, RHP Ian Bedell (2-1, 1.44) vs. RHP Stiven Cruz (1-4, 6.23)
Palm Beach Cardinals, Daytona Tortugas – Postponed
Due to rain in the Palm Beach area, the Palm Beach Cardinals and Daytona Tortugas contest will be made up in a doubleheader on Friday.
