The St. Louis Cardinals system went 2-2 on Thursday. Our Players of the Day are Palm Beach shortstop Masyn Winn and first baseman Jacob Buchberger, who combined for nine hits, including a solo home run from Buchberger, five RBI and five runs scored in the Cardinals win over Daytona.

Memphis 2 at Indianapolis 3 (11 innings)
The Redbirds (15-24) lost a heartbreaker at the Indianapolis Indians in an 11 inning 3-2 game on Thursday night.
This low-scoring contest began with Memphis scoring first on a solo home run by Kramer Robertson in the first inning. The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning when Memphis tandem starter Connor Thomas yielded the tying run on two singles and a sac bunt.
The two teams took the 1-1 tie into extra innings. Memphis gained the 2-1 advantage in the 10th when Tyler Heineman scored on a single by Evan Mendoza. The Indians answered in the bottom frame with one run off Redbirds reliever Connor Jones to re-tie the score at 2 each.
Memphis could not mount a rally in the top of the 11th, and In the bottom of the frame, Jesus Cruz gave up a single that plated the walk off run for Indianapolis.
Fresh from his return from St. Louis, Angel Rondon started and pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowed three hits, and fanned five. Scheduled starter Thomas, Austin Warner, Jones, and Cruz relieved and Cruz took the loss, his second of the season.
Robertson was 2-for-5 with one RBI on the solo home run. The only other extra base hit was a double by John Nogowski. Second baseman Irving Lopez committed two errors, one throwing and one fielding.
Friday’s game: at Indianapolis, Matthew Liberatore LHP (1-3, 4.73) vs. Max Kranick RHP (1-1, 3.14) 6:05 CT.
The Cardinals (13-25) won their 13th game of the season and first in the series in a 5-2 win over the Wichita Wind Surge at Riverfront Stadium on Thursday night.
Tyler Pike got the start and pitched 5 2/3 innings. The left hander surrendered three runs in the sixth inning, allowed six hits, fanned three and walked three. Kevin McGovern and Jacob Bosiokovic tossed the final 3 1/3 scoreless innings.
The game was scoreless into the bottom of the sixth when the Wind Surge scored three runs off Pike on two singles and three doubles. The runs were answered by the Cardinals in the top of the seventh. Brendan Donovan, Aaron Antonini and Delvin Perez walked to load the bases, and Donovan scored on a wild pitch. Nolan Gorman followed with a double to plate Antonini and Perez that tied the game 3-3.
The tie was broken in the top of the ninth when Nick Dunn singled and Perez thumped a two-run home run to left field to give Springfield the 5-3 lead and the win.
Perez was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Alec Burleson went 3-for-5 and Dunn was 2-for-4. Gorman had two RBI.
Nick Plummer had an outfield assist at second base.
Friday’s game: at Wichita, Andre Pallante RHP (3-1, 2.35) v. Josh Winder RHP (2-0, 2.16) 7:05 CT.
The Chiefs (16-23) fell to the Beloit Snappers by the score of 6-2 on a Thursday night contest at Dozer Park. Starter Connor Lunn pitched well for the first four innings only to yield a major crooked number in the fifth inning to take his second loss of the season.
Peoria got on the board first with two runs in the first inning on back-to-back doubles by Jhon Torres and Malcom Nunez. One batter later Nunez scored on a throwing error to give the Chiefs the 2-0 lead.
That score remained until the top of the fifth inning. Lunn yielded six runs on six hits in the fifth and Beloit took the 6-2 lead. The relief corps of Wilfred Pereira, Fabian Blanco, and Paul Schwendel kept Beloit off the board for the final four innings, but the Chiefs offense was unable to score further.
Peoria collected eight hits overall and were 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Pedro Pages was 2-for-4 as the only player with multiple hits. The doubles by Torres and Nunez were the only extra base hits.
Matt Chamberlain was caught stealing for the third time in the season. Pages was called for catcher’s interference in the six-run fifth inning.
Friday’s game: vs. Beloit, Michael YaSenka RHP (0-3, 7.16) vs. Bryan Hoeing RHP (2-3, 6.55) 6:35 CT.
The Cardinals edged the Tortugas in a Thursday night slugfest at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The game featured all the offense a fan would want as the balls went out of the park and runners went flying around the bases.
Five long balls were struck, including three off the bats of Beach Birds hitters. It began in the top of the first inning as Palm Beach catcher Carlos Soto sent one over the right center field wall for a two-run shot. Masyn Winn began the inning with a single and Soto drove him home.
The Tortugas matched the Cardinals with a two-run home run by Daytona first baseman Leonardo Seminati off Cardinals starter John Beller. Palm Beach added a run in the top of the second on a Winn triple to take the 3-2 lead. The Beach Birds increased their lead to 4-2 with a score in the top of the third on a solo long ball by Jacob Buchberger.
Luis Ortiz relieved Beller in the third, but he didn’t finish the inning as he yielded four runs to give Daytona a 6-4 lead. Tandem starter Ludwin Jimenez got the final out of the third.
Neither team scored in the fourth, but the Cardinals answered Daytona’s crooked number with one of their own. In the top of the fifth, Soto was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Jordan Walker doubled and Buchberger singled to plate Soto. Tommy Jew then blasted a three-run home run. Palm Beach had the 8-6 lead.
The Cardinals increased their lead to 10-6 in the sixth on RBI singles by Buchberger and Todd Lott. With Jimenez still on the mound, Daytona cut the lead to 10-7 without the benefit of a hit – on three walks and two wild pitches.
The Tortugas tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with three runs off reliever Francisco Justo. The Beach Birds regained the lead in the eighth when Winn doubled and scored on a single by Buchberger. The 11-10 score held through the ninth to give the Cardinals the one run victory.
The Palm Beach offense scored 11 runs on 17 hits. Winn was 5-for-6 with an RBI and three runs scored. Buchberger went 4-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. Franklin Soto was 2-for-5.
Justo was charged with a blown save but was awarded the win. Newcomer Kevin Marnon was the only Cardinals pitcher to not give up runs. The lefty earned his first save.
Walker stole his first base of the season but also made a throwing error, his sixth error of the season.
