The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-4 on Wednesday as Memphis dropped two. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day Kenny Hernandez pitched six scoreless, one-hit innings in Springfield’s win. Other standouts include Ian Bedell, Nick Dunn, and Victor Scott II.

Memphis 2 at Jacksonville 10 (seven innings, Game 1)
The Memphis Redbirds were pounded by the Jumbo Shrimp in the first game of a twin bill on Wednesday. Starter Dakota Hudson pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up nine runs, six earned, on eight hits, struck out one and walked three. Hudson took the loss.
Dalton Roach surrendered one run in 2 1/3 innings of relief.
Jacksonville put up six runs against Hudson in the second inning to take the lead. Memphis scored its first run of two in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Ivan Herrera.
The Jumbo Shrimp answered with three more in the home half of the fourth and another run in the fifth.
The Redbirds scored their final run of the game in the seventh on a solo long ball by Moises Gomez.

The Memphis offense was quiet, scoring two runs on two hits, the two solo home runs.
Taylor Motter made a fielding error. Hudson picked a runner off first base.
Memphis 1 at Jacksonville 8 (seven innings, Game 2)
The Redbirds lost the second game of the twin bill, which was the makeup of Tuesday’s rain out. Fill in starter Grant Black pitched 2 2/3 innings, gave up four runs on seven hits and struck out two. Black took the loss, his third.
Kyle Leahy relieved Black and surrendered four runs in just 2/3 of an inning. Kodi Whitley threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Guillermo Zuniga tossed a scoreless sixth.
The Jumbo Shrimp took a 1-0 lead in the second, added six runs in the third and one in the fourth to increase the lead to 8-0.
Memphis scored their only run in the sixth on a solo home run by Masyn Winn.

Taylor Motter and Juniel Querecuto were 2-for-3. Winn’s long ball was the only extra base hit. The offense was 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base.
Memphis is 34-31 on the season and is in fourth place in the International League West, 11 games back of St. Paul.
Thursday’s game: at Jacksonville, RHP Tommy Parsons (0-2, 6.26) vs. LHP Enmanuel De Jesus, 6:00 CT.
The Springfield Cardinals defeated the Drillers by the score of 6-2 at Hammons Field on Wednesday. Starter Kenny Hernandez pitched six scoreless innings, allowed one hit, struck out four and walked four to earn his seventh win of the season.
Ryan Shreve relieved Hernandez and surrendered one run in the seventh. Andre Granillo relinquished one run in the final two innings.
Springfield took the lead in the first inning on a two-run home run by Nick Dunn.

The Drillers cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the seventh. The Cardinals answered in the bottom half with three runs. Mike Antico walked and stole second. Dunn walked. Pedro Pages singled to score Antico. Chandler Redmond plated Dunn and Pages on a double.
Tulsa made it 5-2 in the eighth, and Springfield responded in the home half of the inning with an RBI double by Irving Lopez.
Dunn was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Redmond drove in two.
On the base paths, Antico stole two bases. Arquimedes Gamboa stole his 10th base of the season. Jacob Buchberger was picked off first base.
In the field, Jose Alvarez was charged with catcher interference. Hernandez picked a runner off first base.
Springfield is 30-29 on the season and is in third place in the Texas League North, 7.5 games back of Arkansas.
Thursday’s game: vs. Tulsa, Connor Lunn RHP (1-4, 6.27) vs. River Ryan RHP (1-2, 3.05) 7:05 CT.
The Peoria Chiefs edged the Lugnuts in a 4-3 road win on Wednesday. Starter Ian Bedell pitched five scoreless innings, allowed two hits, struck out four and walked one to earn his third win of the season.
Gustavo Rodriguez surrendered one run in three innings of relief. Andrew Marrero relinquished two unearned runs in the ninth but finally closed the door.
Peoria went up 1-0 in the first inning. Victor Scott II tripled and scored on a single by Darlin Moquete. The Chiefs added three runs in the second. Osvaldo Tovalin and Thomas Francisco singled. Tyler Reichenborn singled and Tovalin scored. Francisco came home on a double by Scott II.

The score remained 4-0 in favor of Peoria until the ninth inning when the Lugnuts cut the final margin to 4-3. The game ended on a force out with the potential tying run at third base.
Scott II was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Francisco was 3-for-4.
In the field, Jeremy Rivas made two errors, one fielding and one throwing.
With six consecutive wins, Peoria is 30-29 on the season and is in second place in the Midwest League West, four games back of Cedar Rapids.
Thursday’s game: at Lansing, Trent Baker RHP (3-4, 3.88) vs. Jose Dicochea RHP (0-0, 0.00) 6:05 CT.
The Palm Beach Cardinals were walloped by the Mets in a 10-1 defeat at Roger Dean Stadium on Wednesday. Starter Brycen Mautz pitched just one inning, gave up three runs on three hits and walked one. Mautz took the loss.
Jose Davila relieved Mautz and surrendered four runs while recording only one out. Angle Cuenca relinquished two runs in 3 1/3 innings. Chandler Arnold threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Edwin Nunez allowed one run in the ninth.
St. Lucie took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. From there the Mets kept scoring with four runs in the second, two runs in the fifth, and one run in the top of the ninth.
The Beach Birds were held scoreless through eight innings. Finally, in the bottom of the ninth, they scratched one run across the plate. Carlos Linarez doubled, and advanced to third on a fly out by Joshua Baez. Linarez scored on a force out by Brandon Hernandez.
The Cardinals scored their one run on four hits. Won-Bin Cho was 2-for-4. Linarez’ double was the only extra base hit. The offense was 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.
Palm Beach is 34-25 on the season and is in first place in the FSL East with a two-game lead over Jupiter.
Thursday’s game: vs. St. Lucie, RHP Cade Winquest (3-3, 5.14) vs. Douglas Orellana RHP (2-2, 3.76) 5:30 CT.
FCL Cardinals 1 at FCL Marlins 2
The Florida Complex League Cardinals were edged by the Marlins in a one run contest on Wednesday. Starter Darlin Saladin pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up one run on two hits, struck out six and walked four. Saladin took the tough-luck loss.
Luis Gastelum relieved Saladin and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Alejandro Cervantes tossed a scoreless seventh. Antoni Cuello surrendered one run in the eighth.
The Marlins went up 1-0 in the first inning and that score remained until the eighth when the Marlins made it 2-0.
In the ninth, the Cardinals finally scored their lone run. Jose Suarez drew a walk and later scored on a single by Samil De La Rosa.
De La Rosa was 2-for-3 with an RBI and was the only Cardinal with multiple hits. The offense was 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
On the base paths, De La Rosa stole his first base of the season. In the field, Jonathan Mejia and Fernando Diaz each made a fielding error.
The Cardinals are 3-3 on the season.
