Cardinals Minor League Notebook – June 13, 2023

The St. Louis Cardinals system went 0-1 on Monday with the DSL club playing the only game. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Arfeni Batista, went 2-for-5 with a homer, a single and two RBI.

Memphis Redbirds – Off

The Memphis Redbirds (34-29) are in fourth place in the International League West and sit 2.5 games behind first-place St. Paul.

Springfield Cardinals – Off

The Springfield Cardinals (28-29) are nine games back of Tulsa in the Texas League North. 

Tuesday’s game: vs. Tulsa, TBA vs. RHP Nick Nastrini (2-1, 4.03) 6:35 CT

Peoria Chiefs – Off

The Peoria Chiefs (28-29) moved up to third place and are four games behind Cedar Rapids in the Midwest League West. 

Tuesday’s game: at Lansing, LHP Alex Cornwell (4-2, 3.19) vs. RHP Mitch Myers (0-2, 4.91) 6:05 CT

Palm Beach Cardinals – Off

The Palm Beach Cardinals (34-23) are in first place by three games in the Florida State League East. 

Tuesday’s game: vs. St. Lucie, TBA vs. TBA 4:00 CT

FCL Cardinals – Off

In only four games, the Florida Complex League Cardinals (3-1) are atop the Florida Complex League East by one game over the Astros. 

Tuesday’s game: vs. FCL Astros, TBA vs. TBA 11:00 CT

DSL Cardinals 7 at DSL Guardians Blue 10

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (3-3) were defeated by the Guardians Blue (3-3) on Monday afternoon.

Starter Nelfy Ynfante went 1 2/3 innings and gave up five runs on two hits, four walks and three strikeouts. Stiveen Rojas pitched 2 1/3 scoreless frames with two punchouts. Giovanni Vargas took his first loss after he yielded two runs in one inning. 

After the Guardians scored five in the second, the Cardinals tied the game in the fifth inning. Bracewell Taveras blasted a solo home run, his first of the year. Heriberto Carabello came across on an error and Andru Arthur scored on a wild pitch. Arfeni Batista blasted a two-run shot to tie the game.

The Cleveland affiliate took a two-run lead in the bottom half of the fifth but the Cardinals responded with one in the sixth. Andru Arthur walked with the bases loaded but they could not get any more across. In the eighth, Facundo Velasquez hit a solo home run to make the score 10-7.

Yodry Herrera tossed 1 2/3 innings and surrendered three runs, two earned, on two hits, three walks and a strikeout. Kener Perez recorded 1 1/3 scoreless innings. 

Batista had the only multi-hit game with two and he blasted a home run. Taveras and Velasquez also hit home runs. Luis Atocha doubled and Arthur walked twice. The lineup recorded seven hits, four walks and left seven runners on base. 

On the bases, Hancel Almonte was caught stealing. In the field, Yordalin Pena, Rojas and Herrera all made errors. Pena and Almonte both had outfield assists. 

The Cardinals are tied for fourth place in the Dominican Summer League South.
