In the 1-4 Wednesday for the St. Louis Cardinals farm system, Memphis outslugged Salt Lake for the sole victory. Palm Beach and Peoria lost low-scoring duels, Springfield was thumped by Midland, and Player of the Day Claudio Ramirez and his five hits weren’t enough to offset dreadful pitching in a high-scoring DSL Red loss to the Cubs. The DSL Blue team took the day off.
Results for games played Wednesday, June 12th.

Memphis raised their record to 28-38 by scoring seven runs from the seventh inning onward, in an 11-5 come-from-behind home triumph over the Salt Lake Bees on Wednesday night. Left fielder Tyler O’Neill and scalding hot DH Rangel Ravelo were a two-man wrecking crew in the middle of the order, reaching base nine times between them and homering once apiece. (O’Neill even stole a base, his third.) Ravelo’s 4-for-4 performance improved his June average to .485 after he batted .384 in May and was The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Month. In his Memphis return, Andrew Knizner chipped in with a pair of singles and was hit by a pitch.
Lefty Evan Kruczynski started and went five innings for the Redbirds, allowing 13 baserunners but only four runs. The win went to Chasen Shreve and his shutout inning, while scoreless frames were also registered by Harold Arauz (two whiffs, no runners) and Dominic Leone, who struck out the side in his one inning of work.
Thursday’s game: vs. Salt Lake, Alex Reyes (1-2, 6.16) 7:05 CT.

Springfield slid to 25-40 as the bullpen coughed up six sixth-inning runs in a 9-5 home loss to Midland on Wednesday afternoon. Roel Ramirez continued his conversion to starting and was spectacular, twirling 3 2/3 hitless innings and fanning seven RockHounds. The 24-year-old righty threw 59 pitches in his best outing of 2019. Merandy Gonzalez took the loss, retiring one batter and permitting five men to reach safely, plus one more on an error by first baseman Zach Kirtley – making three of the five runs unearned. Only Seth Elledge escaped unscathed among the five relievers, with 2 1/3 shutout stanzas featuring three strikeouts.
The S-Cards offense was led by second baseman Alberto Triunfel with a double and two singles, and Dylan Carlson with a single, double, and free pass. Carlson now resides in the Texas League top 10 of homers, triples, doubles, and walks. He’s also 11th in stolen bases. Defense-first backstop Jose Godoy added a solo longball for Springfield, his third homer in five games after going yard just once over the season’s first two months.
Thursday’s game: vs. Midland, Johan Oviedo (1-3, 7.36), 7:10 CT.

Having been eliminated in the first half playoff race, Palm Beach fell to 35-29 in a 4-2 “road” loss to Jupiter Wednesday evening. Starting pitcher Griffin Roberts was fine through four innings but fell apart in the fifth. On the night, Roberts allowed six hits, two walks, and hit two batters over 4 1/3 innings, before being bailed out of the fifth by reliever Ronnie Williams. Mitchell Osnowitz stood out among the bullpenners, fanning all three men he faced.
Lars Nootbaar led the Beach Birds attack with his first home run since being promoted from Peoria a month ago. Nootbaar also had a single and recorded his ninth outfield assist of the season (against just one error), gunning a runner at the plate. Second sacker Michael Perri had the club’s only other multi-hit game with a pair of singles.
Thursday’s game: “at” Jupiter, Tommy Parsons (3-2, 2.13) 5:30 CT.

Peoria (28-37) scored a pair of runs in the top of the first, but that was it, in a 3-2 defeat at the Clinton LumberKings Wednesday night. Teen catcher and cleanup hitter Ivan Herrera was the sole bright spot in the lineup, going 2-for-4 for his fourth straight multi-hit game, and erasing Clinton’s only would-be base stealer.
Herrera raised his average to .292 on the year, and wrested the team OPS lead from slumping Nolan Gorman, who went 0-for-4 with a whiff. Herrera, on the other hand, has fanned just nine times in his last 88 trips to the plate — after striking out 22 times in his first 82 plate appearances with the Chiefs. The backstop has batted .308 over the past month and is hitting .344 on the road overall.
Alvaro Seijas started for Peoria and fairly dazzled, fanning nine (tying his career high) and walking one over 5 2/3 innings. The 20-year-old righty allowed six hits and two earned runs while throwing 93 pitches. He also hit a batter and had a wild pitch. Righty Sebastian Tabata and lefty Evan Sisk were excellent in relief, whiffing five of the eight batters they faced and yielding just one runner, a single against Sisk.
Thursday’s game: at Clinton, Diego Cordero (2-5, 3.32) 6:30 CT.
DSL Cardinals Blue (5-2) did not play.
Thursday’s game: at DSL Angels, pitcher TBA, 9:30 a.m. CT.
DSL Cubs2 16 at DSL Cardinals Red 10

Despite grabbing an early three-run lead, the DSL Cardinals Red squad (4-6) fell in a shootout on Wednesday, losing at home to the DSL Cubs2 team by a bloated 16-10 tally. The Cubs, who apparently missed an extra point, scored nine runs in the fourth inning (aided by three walks and four wild pitches) to easily overcome a 5-2 deficit. Starter and loser Yonael Dominguez allowed six runs, all earned, and was pulled without retiring a batter in the fateful fourth inning. The righty walked five and fanned one. Fellow 17-year-old Jesus Jaquez was the only Red hurler to distinguish himself on Wednesday morning, logging three innings of one-run ball, conceding two hits and no walks.
Player of the Day Claudio Ramirez went 5-for-5, scored three runs, and plated a pair. The 18-year-old left fielder now has eight hits in his last nine at-bats and is hitting .355 on the season. Designated hitter Diowill Burgos (four RBI) had his team’s only homer and 17-year-old outfielders Fernando Brazoban and Endri Salas each went 2-for-5 to augment the Red attack. Salas singled and tripled, while Brazoban doubled twice and drove in three runs.
Thursday’s game: vs. DSL Mets2, pitcher TBA, 9:30 a.m. CT.
