On Monday, the St. Louis Cardinals system was 0-2 with both games in rookie ball. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, DSL C Rainiel Rodriguez, singled, doubled and drove in three. Memphis – off
Memphis (33-30) has gone 5-5 over its last 10 contests, leaving them in sole possession of fifth place in the International League West Division standings, 10 games behind Omaha (42-19) (KC), against whom they just completed a 3-3 road series.
This week the Redbirds travel to East Division rival Norfolk for week two of a two-week road trip.

Springfield – off
Springfield (33-24) remains atop the Texas League North Division, ½ game up on Arkansas (32-24) (SEA), a team against whom they just split a six-game road series.
This week the S-Cards are home at Hammons Field hosting fourth-place NW Arkansas.

Peoria – off
Sixth/last place in the Midwest League West Division Peoria (20-37) came out on top in their recently finished road series at Fort Wayne (25-32) (SD), going 4-2 against the East Division’s last place squad.
It is Cardinals versus Cubs this week at Dozier Field in Peoria as the Chiefs host third-place South Bend.

Palm Beach – off
Palm Beach (32-25) remains in first place in the Florida State League East Division standings, a game ahead of Jupiter (MIA). This despite going 2-4 at home versus Dunedin (29-28) (TOR) last week.
The Beach Birds look to improve on those results this week as they head to third-place Daytona.
Tuesday’s game: at Daytona (27-30) (CIN), 6:35 pm ET/5:35 pm CT, RH Gerardo Salas (2-3, 2.35) vs. TBD
FCL Cardinals 2 vs FCL Marlins 10
The fifth- and last-place Florida Complex League Cardinals (12-16) could not overcome their opponent’s eight-run third inning, losing to the first-place FCL Marlins (17-7) at home, 10-2.
Starter Yadiel Batista (L, 0-2) did not finish the third, yielding six runs on five hits, two walks and a wild pitch. His final two base runners touched home plate with Yordy Herrera on the mound.
Herrera retired four batters, permitting two hits, two walks and a wild pitch while committing two balks. This effort resulted in two tallies charged to Herrera plus the two inherited runs charged to Batista.
Antoni Cuello shut down his foe’s scoring attack during his two-inning stint, issuing two free passes plus plunking another batter. Juan Severino, Roblin Heredia and Wilmer Ortega each tossed a frame. The former catcher Heredia was touched for two scores on three hits and an errant throw.
The home team pounded out nine hits but could not come through in the clutch, going 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position. Center fielder Yordalin Pena and left fielder Yaisel Ramos had two hits apiece, as both singled and doubled in four and three at bats, respectively. Pena drove in one. Ramos scored once, as he was knocked in via Samil De La Rosa’s sac fly to right in the seventh inning.

DSL Cardinals 3 at DSL Nationals 6
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals (2-2) could not hold a sixth-inning lead, dropping a 6-3 decision at the second place (tie) DSL Nationals (3-2). The Dominican Birds are in a three-way fifth-place tie in the early standings of the Central Division, three games back of the undefeated DSL Giants Black (SF).
The visiting Cardinals’ two-run sixth broke a 1-1 tie that had lasted since the end of the first, putting them up 3-1. But the home squad battled back with single scores in the sixth and seventh to knot the score at 3-3 through seven frames. A three-run eighth was the difference.
The final four scores came against Alan Reyes (L, 0-1) (BS, 1) who was tagged for four runs, three earned, on four hits and two walks (both intentional) against six outs recorded.
Gabriel Chinchilla was solid in his pro debut. The 17-year-old struck out four over three innings, allowing a first-inning tally on two singles and two walks. Oliver Gonzalez bested Chinchilla’s effort, the only hit and mark against him in three innings being a solo shot. Gonzalez fanned five before handing the ball off to Reyes.
The only Cardinal with more than one of five team hits was catcher Rainiel Rodriguez, who continues on a tear in his early pro career. The 17-year-old accounted for all three scores, going 2-for-3 including a double, with a sac fly and three RBI, while batting third.
Center fielder Facundo Velasquez, the number two batter, scored two of his team’s three runs, reaching base three times on a 1-for-2 with two walks performance. First baseman Fernando Roquez and right fielder Brayan Amoroso both contributed a double.
