The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-4 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day is FCL Cardinals DH Luis Rodriguez, who was 2-for-5 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs in the Cardinals’ one-run extra innings loss to the Marlins. Other standouts include Taylor Motter, Nick Dunn and Justin Guerrero.
Results for games played on Friday, June 9.
The Memphis Redbirds lost to the Durham Bulls by the score of 5-3 at AutoZone Park on Friday. Starter Tommy Parsons pitched five innings, gave up five runs on eight hits, struck out five and walked three. The right-hander suffered his second loss of the season.
Grant Black relieved Parsons and threw two scoreless innings of relief. JoJo Romero hurled a scoreless eighth. Jake Walsh tossed a scoreless ninth.
Durham took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Bulls scored one run in the third and three runs in the fourth.
Memphis answered in the home half of the fourth with three runs. Masyn Winn singled and Matt Koperniak singled. Moises Gomez doubled and Winn scored. Taylor Motter singled to plate Koperniak and Gomez.
Motter was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Juniel Querecuto went 2-for-4.
On the base paths, Kramer Robertson stole his 11th base of the season.
Memphis is 34-27 on the season and is tied for third place in the International League West with Iowa, 1.5 games back of St. Paul.

The Springfield Cardinals fell to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in a four-run loss at Hammons Field on Friday. Starter Connor Lunn pitched six innings, gave up five runs on 11 hits and struck out three. Lunn took the loss, his fourth.
Jose Martinez relieved Lunn and surrendered an unearned run in two innings of relief. Bryan Pope tossed a scoreless ninth in his Double-A debut.
The Cardinals scored first with one run in the fourth. Pedro Pages singled and later scored on a ground out by Nick Dunn.
NW Arkansas posted a five run fifth inning. Springfield scored their second and final run in the sixth. Dunn doubled and came across on a single by Jacob Buchberger.
The Naturals added a sixth run in the eighth.
Dunn was 3-for-4 and Buchberger had two RBI.
On the bases, Buchberger stole his eighth base of the season. In the field, Lunn picked a runner off first base.
Springfield is 26-29 on the season and is in third place in the Texas League North, 10 games behind Tulsa.
Saturday’s game: vs. NW Arkansas, Logan Gragg RHP (0-3, 7.54) vs. Noah Cameron LHP (0-2, 3.29) 6:35 CT.
The Peoria Chiefs beat the Beloit Sky Carp in an 8-3 contest at Dozer Park on Friday. Starter Trent Baker pitched seven innings, gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits, struck out five and walked one to earn his third win of the season.
Alfredo Ruiz relieved Baker and tossed the final two scoreless innings.
Peoria went up 1-0 in the first inning on a solo home run by Aaron McKeithan. Beloit quickly tied it in the second.

The Chiefs regained the lead in the fourth on a solo long ball by Jimmy Crooks. The Sky Carp scored two in the top of the seventh to lead 3-2.

Peoria responded with five runs in the bottom half. Jeremy Rivas singled and Osvaldo Tovalin singled to advance him to third. Tovalin stole second base. Thomas Francisco plated Rivas and Tovalin on a single. Francisco Hernandez singled and Darlin Moquete walked. Francisco scored on a sac fly by Victor Scott II. Nathan Church plated Hernandez and Moquete.
The Chiefs added one more run in the eighth. Tovalin walked and later scored on a ground out by Francisco.
Peoria scored eight runs on seven hits. No Chief had multiple hits. Church and Francisco each had two RBI.
Tovalin stole his seventh base of the season. Church stole his 10th bag.
In the field, Tovalin made two errors, one fielding and one throwing. Rivas had a throwing error.
Peoria is 26-29 on the season and is in fourth place in the Midwest League West, 5 games back of Cedar Rapids.
Saturday’s game: vs. Beloit, Tink Hence RHP (0-1, 2.81) vs. Zach King LHP (4-2, 2.73) 6:35 CT.
The Palm Beach Cardinals were walloped by the Jupiter Hammerheads in a 12-2 blowout at Roger Dean Stadium on Friday. Starter Cade Winquest pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up seven runs on eight hits and walked two. The 23-year-old took the loss, his third of the season.
Angel Cuenca relieved Winquest and surrendered five runs in 2/3 innings. Chandler Arnold threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings and Henry Gomez tossed a scoreless eighth.
Jupiter scored two runs in the first, two runs in the second, three runs in the fourth and five runs in the fifth.
The Beach Birds were held scoreless until the ninth inning. An Alex Iadisernia two-run long ball ended the shutout.
Palm Beach scored two runs on eight hits. The offense was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base.
No Cardinal had multiple hits. Iadisernia had two RBI.
On the base paths, Joshua Baez stole his sixth base of the season.
Palm Beach is 32-23 on the season and is in first place in the FSL East.

FCL Cardinals 10, FCL Marlins 11 (11 innings)
The Florida Complex League Cardinals were edged by the Marlins in an 11 inning slugfest on Friday. Starter Gerado Salas pitched five innings, gave up two runs on three hits, struck out two and walked one.
Antoni Cuello relieved Salas and threw a scoreless sixth. Randel Clemente surrendered two runs, one earned while recording only one out. Victor Villanueva relinquished five runs in 2/3 innings and Miguel Martinez hurled a scoreless eighth. Alejandro Cervantes tossed a scoreless ninth. Luis Gastelum allowed two unearned runs in the final two innings to take the loss.
The Marlins scored two runs in the top of the third to take a 2-0 lead. The Cardinals quickly answered with three runs in the home half of the third on a three-run double by Luis Rodriguez.
The Cardinals added three more runs in the fifth to increase the lead to 6-2. Jose Suarez singled then advanced to second on an error. A wild pitch sent Suarez to third. Jeremy Ramos reached on an error and stole second base. Suarez scored on a wild pitch and Rodriguez walked. Justin Guerrero singled and Ramos scored. Rodriguez scored on a single by Yaisel Ramos.
A Guerrero single in the sixth plated the seventh run for the Cardinals.
The Marlins scored seven runs in the seventh to take a 9-7 lead. The Cardinals tied it in the eighth on two bases loaded hit by pitches.
In extra innings, the Marlins plated a run in the top of the 10th. The Cardinals tied it again in the bottom of the inning. J. Ramos started the inning on second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a wild pitch.
The Marlins scored a run in the top of the 11th to which the Cardinals were unable to respond.
Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Guerrero was 3-for-3 with two RBI. Y. Ramos was 2-for-5 with an RBI and Anyelo Encarnacion was 2-for-5.
On the bases, Y. Ramos stole his first base of the season. J. Ramos also stole his first base of the season.
In the field, Samil De La Rosa and Maikel Hernandez each made a throwing error. Suarez had an outfield assist at home plate.
The Cardinals are 2-1 on the season.

DSL Cardinals 7, DSL Marlins 5
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals defeated the Marlins in a 7-5 contest on Friday. Starter Brailyn Paulino pitched two innings, allowed two runs, one earned, on one hit, struck out three and walked four.
Yordy Herrera relieved Paulino and surrendered one run in two innings of relief. Jarol Baez threw a scoreless fifth and Jovi Galvez relinquished one run in the sixth. Emisael Carrera allowed one unearned run in two innings and earned the win, his first of the season. Kener Perez tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his first save.
The Marlins scored first with one run in the top of the first inning. The Cardinals responded with four runs in the home half. Yoerny Junco drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Bracewell Taveras singled and Junco scored. Taveras went to third on a wild pitch. Hancel Almonte reached on an error and Taveras scored. Almonte scored on a double by Facundo Velasquez and Luis Atocha singled to score Velasquez.
The Marlins scored one run in the third, one run in the fourth and one run in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4.
In the seventh, the Cardinals added two runs to go up 6-4. Taveras singled, and Yordalin Pena doubled. Almonte struck out on a wild pitch third strike. Taveras and Pena scored on the wild pitch and a throwing error.
The Marlins cut the lead to 6-5 in the top of the eighth. The Cardinals answered in the bottom frame with one run via wild pitch to win the game 7-5.
Taveras was 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Atocha was 2-for-2.
On the base paths, Junco was caught stealing for the first time. In the field, Chris Lopez made a throwing error. Daniel Rojas had two fielding miscues.
The Cardinals are 3-1 on the season.
